Al Gore to endorse, appear with Obama at tonight's rally in Detroit!!!!!!
Hooray!!!! Happy news, oh how I wish I could be there!

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/16/gore-to-appear-with-obama/index.html?hp

FLINT, Mich. – Former Vice President Al Gore will appear in Detroit tonight for his debut campaign appearance with Senator Barack Obama, extending an endorsement and urging all Democrats to rally behind the party’s fall ticket.

“A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama,” Mr. Gore said in an e-mail sent to his supporters. “From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States.”

Throughout the long Democratic primary, Mr. Gore talked frequently to Mr. Obama. But tonight’s rally at the Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit marks the first time they will appear together on the same stage. The endorsement was announced – on Mr. Gore’s terms – to supporters on his vast e-mail list.

“I’ve never asked members of AlGore.com to contribute to a political campaign before, but this moment and this election are too important to let pass without taking action,” Mr. Gore said. He added, “Over the past 18 months, Barack Obama has united a movement. He knows change does not come from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or Capitol Hill. It begins when people stand up and take action.”

Of course it still means something.
Al Gore is the leading voice on Climate Change....an important topic. McCain is a poseur on this issue. This will help those Hillary Democrats even contemplating voting for McCain......and there are some.

I'm sure of it.

You have to remember that Obama doesn't have 100% of the Dem voters on his column just yet. This is far enough away from Clinton dropping out that it has allowed those stubborn Women voters as well as some seniors to mourn. They will take Gore's endorsement more seriously than you are giving credit.

That McCain attempted to piggyback Obama's appearance earlier today....and since Obama's next rally later was after the evening newscycle, some here at determined that McCain had won this newscycle.

To those I say....think again.

32. Those of you with sarcastic responses are overlooking the most important factor about Gore.
After the 2000 debacle, he took himself OUT of politics, carefully working above the perennial mudpit to maximize his position (and his credibility)as an advocate for the global climate crisis.

And keep in mind that Gore did not do this in 2004. That underscores the importance of tonight's appearance.

36. Gore in 2004 endorsed Dean, then Kerry. He did a big rallye with Dean in Iowa, and campaigned later
for Kerry.

Now, what is important is that the meeting is in MI. It shows MI importance.

Didn't do a big joint appearance.
I should've been more precise with my words, but tonight's appearance is a big departure from what he did in 2004.

He's also going to use his website to raise money for Obama, which he also did not do in 2004.

68. In fact, Gore endorsed Kerry in a big unity rallye with all other candidates after Super Tuesday.
I cannot remember if he did some fundraising, but guess he did.

Not to try to minimize what he is doing today. It is great that he endorses Obama and it is a great move from the Obama people to have the rally in MI, but Gore was active in the 04 election as he will probably in this one.

59. Perfect timing
I'm happy that Gore stayed out of the in-fighting and saved his endorsement until now.

We should see a bump!

I can't help but notice...you've posted the exact same sentence, and only the exact same sentence in each of the three threads I've read on this subject.

100. What's more curious is that you didn't comment about my actual post, but rather
took the focus off of Obama and his support of liquefied coal and put it square on me.

:wtf:

I'm really getting sick of the denial & b.s. around this place.

86. Another good strategic move by the Obama campaign
Let the immediate heat of the primaries cool down a little, give people time to think, then keep reminding them why it's so critical to vote Democratic this year.

I wonder if any mention will be made of Obama's plan to set the full slate of MI and FL delegates? Seems like a perfect time to bring it up if you ever plan to announce it, what with Al Gore, the wronged party in FL 2000, speaking in MI...

94. Thank you, President Gore!
He's still my president, until January 20, 2009. :-) His endorsement of Senator Obama brings the campaign to an exciting peak.

Tomorrow: a rematch between the Dodgers and Reds. :toast:

:hi: Jen Jen!
