Florida news blog on Dean's fundraiser tomorrow: "See Howard Dean: Bring tomatoes."
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 05:05 PM by madfloridian
It is time for the Florida newspaper blogs to stop doing this every time he comes to Florida. These bloggers are acting immature and pouty and childish.

They do not want things to heal here in this state. I admire him for continuing to come here and for trying to reason with fools.

Here is the worst from someone I thought had more sense as a rule. From Beth Reinhard at the Miami Herald.

See Howard Dean...bring tomatoes

Isn't that cute of Beth?

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean will headline a party fundraiser from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Gemma Lounge in Miami Beach.

Democrats disgusted with the DNC's decision to allow Florida delegates to cast only half a vote at the nominating convention: this is your chance to give Dean an earful. Others may want to shake his hand now that Florida delegates will at least have seats in Denver.

About 200 people are expected. Tickets cost $100 and can be bought at the door.

Or maybe this one should have been first...at least it is a close second.

From the Sun Sentinel:

Howard Dean, the enforcer of rules to punish Florida, comes calling for cash

How cutesy of Mark Hollis as well. I thought he had better sense.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean must be feeling confident that South Florida Democrats are in a forgiving mood. He’s hosting a fundraiser in the neighborhood --- a “grassroots fundraising event” in Miami Beach on Tuesday.

Dean, in case anyone has forgotten, is the guy who made the call that nearly stripped Florida Democrats of any votes at the presidential nominating convention.

That highly controversial decision to nullify Florida delegate votes came in response to the Florida Legislature’s decision to advance the state’s presidential primary. It rankled lots of Democrats, especially supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton who handily won Florida’s Jan. 29 presidential primary.

Consider what Palm Beach County Commissioner and Clinton backer Burt Aaronson told a throng of Clinton fans less than a month ago --- on May 21 - as he warmed up a south Palm Beach crowd in the West Boca Century Village retirement community.

Said Aaronson (as reported by my colleague Josh Hafenbrack): “I would personally like to get rid of Howard Dean. I don’t know if his name should be Howard Dean or Howard Dunce.”

I think it is a toss up between FL and TN as to which politicians can be the most insulting to our good Democrats like Dean and Obama.

Under normal circumstances the well-organized Florida bloggers would call these newspaper bloggers out on their rudeness to our party chairman....but the Florida progressive bloggers have never said much at all.

They could have made a difference. This has been the attitude of most major papers here. No one has stood up to them.

1. The blogs here have not even shown common courtesy
and to mention bring tomatoes? We all know why that was said.

3. Florida is living up to its FARK title........
when something hits the news.... you just post Florida, not crazy, opinion, sports, irony or insanity.
The story is about something that happened in Florida that fits that title.

Fark made a special catagory for those stories they are called Florida.

13. Then let Davis and Bredesen speak up in defense of Obama....
and I will quit linking to it.

Don't you think the governor and congressman should speak up as much as Ford did?

10. Really sad. Howard Dean plays by the established rules, doesn't change them mid-game,
and should be punished? Must be some of those bitter folks who shifted from Hillary to McCain.

12. All of the media here has been insulting to him.
There has been no let up. The party itself is just paying lip service to getting along with others.

Yes, it is sad. Our Florida progressive bloggers could have made such a difference, but they mostly chose to remain silent or stand with the state party.

11. We kicked off our new annual fund raising dinner last night,
to honor Marilyn Lloyd, the other is in the early fall in honor of Estes Kefauver and we need more Kefauvers in this party as fair as I'm concerned!

Anyway Gray Sasser, our state party chair, had made a joke in reference to the heat that he and members of the state executive committee have taken because of the likes of Frasier and Hobbs.

Outside after the dinner a small group of us were standing around chatting and a friend who has a Yellow Dog Democrat hat had put his hat back on and he has a Dean lapel pin on the hat. Gray was walking out and noticed the Dean pin and stated something about, 'I love Howard Dean. He helped us get this state party back on track and he's made my job a helluva lot easier.'

Probably still a toss up, though. :hi:

16. You're welcome!
My friend lives in GA and while we realize that we have lots of work to do, our circumstances have improved as far as funding and organization and getting us 'mythical little people' energized again.

17. Your concern is noted
Obama won so why all the fuss? If this was an OP in Hillary's defense the concerned of
the concerned would be "doing their duty" i am sure.

18. I think you are confused about my post.
It is about the way Florida has been and still is using tactics of ridicule and humiliation against the party chairman who went by the rules.

Actually it would help if she and the state leaders tried to calm things down here.

19. I have an idea.
Perhaps you could contact that blogger for the Sun Sentinel and ask him why he brought up that a Hillary political leader here called Dean ..."Howard Dunce".

Actually the blogger did it to be divisive...and you should call him out on it.

While you are at it ask Beth Reinhard if she really was encouraging them to throw tomatoes at Dean tonight.
