Poll: Obama Holds Big Lead In Ohio
Poll: Obama Holds Big Lead In Ohio
By Eric Kleefeld - June 17, 2008, 11:16AM
Barack Obama seems to have a very good start in Ohio as the general election season beings, a new survey from Public Policy Polling (D) suggests. The numbers: Obama 50%, McCain 39%, beyond the ±3.6% margin of error.

Back in early March, when Obama was on the verge of a bruising defeat in the state's primary, McCain led 49%-41% in PPP's reporting. If Obama can successfully unite Dem voters and not lose too many Hillary voters -- and this poll indicates he can -- then life could become very difficult for McCain.

Also worth noting: PPP's final pre-primary survey of Ohio got Hillary's primary margin almost exactly right.

6. PPP is a Dem polling company, I believe
So I don't think 11 points is really accurate. I mean, if Obama wins Ohio by 11 points he might well get 60% nationawide. That said, I like the results. :bounce:

I live in Dayton Ohio. And I'm seeing an overwhelming support for Obama.Granted I live in the city so I don't have a clue about the suburban or the rural voters. But it looks like Ohio is going to go blue from where I'm sitting.
Besides Ohio went blue in the "04" election too Blackwell and Diebold stole the votes from Kerry.

9. I think it will go blue as well.
I just doubt Obama is up 11 there right now. Maybe I just take polls with too many grains of salt after seeing them mess up so badly over the years.

Polls and statistics can be manipulated to say whatever the pollster and statistician want them to say!
Still It makes me happy to think that Obama is running 11 points ahead. Though I definitely see your point.

16. Remember that in the Primary, Dayton and Cincinnati were Barack's biggest strongholds.
If Obama can carry Hamilton and Montgomery counties, the White House is OURS.

21. Well, that's the thing. I *expect* Cleveland and Columbus to remain blue.
Dayton and Cincinnati are trickier... but since those two areas were already the strongest for Obama during the primary, we have soooo much room to grow!!!!

:bounce:

This is really fantastic news, my fellow Buckeyes!

You're absolutely right!!! I just like to focus on the whole potential instead of the " T.V political pundits continuous questioning of "Whats wrong with Obama why can't he close the deal with blue collar,women,etc" You know....You know.

27. It's going to be such a challenge ignoring our "Awesome Liberal Media" this political season
They're so caught up in keeping it close, in talking about "Obama and his women-and-working-class problems" despite all evidence to the contrary. Same goes with their annoying "Did Obama dis Hillary by naming Patti Solis-Doyle to his staff?" horseshit.

They are gossip columnists at heart, and are incapable of covering substantial issue discussion. That's where we come in, I guess. :-)

7. Its an amazingly high number and PPP sometimes is unreliable
If true it would be amazing that Ohio was so much bluer than Michigan and Indiana

maybe a precurser for higher numbers in neighboring states.

12. Of course Ohio would be bluer than Indiana. Indiana is usually 15 points more Republican.
Ohio is always right around the national spread + or - a few.

Weird I haven't heard anything about this on my teevee today. Joe Scarborough still insists Obama just will never reach the "working class people of Ohio."

19. Strickland introduced Obama at a Townhall event last Friday. My guess that he
will work to help put a Democrat in the WH. The urban ares are a done deal but we can still grow the numbers. The campaign is moving out into the outlining areas to introduce folks to Sen Obama. Stricklnad will help with these folks.

29. Ohio, Florida and PA According to Quinnipiac
Maybe those who are still beating the drum about him being unelectable should stop:

Florida: Obama edges McCain 47 - 43 percent;
Ohio: Obama tops McCain 48 - 42 percent;
Pennsylvania: Obama leads McCain 52 - 40 percent.
