Did anyone watch the Daily Show last night? "Baracknophobia,"
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 01:47 PM by ErinBerin84
It was pretty funny, also interesting since I have never seen Sean Hannity's show except for on clips like this. It focused on Obama's new website and showed clips of John King talking about how the internet allowed unsubstantiated rumors to spread, as opposed to the "quote on quote mainstream media", as John King put it. The Daily Show then showed a montage of people in the MSM (not just Fox, Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer and some others) perpetuating the rumors like Anderson Cooper saying "Did Obama attend a madrasa?" with a graphic of Obama next to the text "Muslim Schooling!" (edit: rewatched it, and the Anderson clip is him saying "Was Obama schooled in radical Islamist thought when he was a little boy?" or something, which is um, worse.) Also showed a clip of the Fox morning show trying to say that Obama plagarized a speech from Cuomo, and the side by side speeches are literally NOTHING alike! I know that the MSM is known for this type of stuff, but just funny when you recognize how it's not just Fox that promotes this craziness. There's a clip of it on the Huffington Post.

"On Monday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart mocked the media's willingness to peddle insane rumors about Barack Obama — and their tendency to blame the rumor-mongering on internet sites. Calling it "Baracknophobia," Stewart showed clips of anchor and pundits from all three cable networks repeating baseless rumors (Muslim, plagiarist, sexist, etc.) about Barack Obama (and his wife Michelle).

The highlight of the clip comes about 2:25 in, when Stewart says, "Oh, this is interesting. SomeguyI'veneverheardof.com is reporting presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama has lady parts. Obviously scurrilous and unfounded, we'll examine it tonight in our special, 'Barack Obama's Vagina: The October Surprise In His Pants.'"

8. David Shuster was going to show the Baracknophobia Daily show clip
today on his news hour on MSNBC (each day, they devote a segment to comedy shows or internet spoofs), but the producers mysteriously played the deceptively edited "Even our dogs and cats know that elections matter!" quote from Al Gore (editing out that the reference was the china made pet food) when they introduced the Baracknophobia clip. They conveniently couldn't get the right clip up, so they moved on. Another case of Baracknophobia?

9. Obamaphobia!
No, it's not just fauxnoise..I dropped cablemediawhorenooze on Nov 6, 2002 because of the way they manipulated the midterm elections.

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and KO are the only sources of real facts.

Is Jack Cafferty still tellin' it like it is?

16. Oh yea, Jack Cafferty is still there and keepin' it real.
I love the guy, he sometimes calls his peers out right there on the air. Calls em like he sees them, IMO.

11. Maybe the writers troll DU for ideas...
Though "Baracknophobia" has probably been used a zillion times before this Sunday post:

And, yes, the plagiarism bit was hilarious!

as well as beat David Brooks up for his "Barack Obama doesn't seem like the kind of person who can walk into a saladbar in Applebees" comment, which is negated by the fact that Applebees doesn't have saladbars. When I saw that on the Daily Show, I thought " who but us DUers were dorky enough to pick up on that David Brooks comment when he first said it"? Though the Daily Show was kind of late. Maybe when it's a slow news day, the lurk the archives.

13. Stewart and Colbert had THE BEST tribute to Tim Russert
It was brief but solemn at the end of the Jon Stewart Show, then again at the beginning of Colbert.

Just right, classy, and a refreshing change from the other "tributes".

Like him or not, I think Russert would have been very happy with it.
