Obama has a large lead in Ohio
Raleigh, N.C. – Barack Obama kicks off the general election with a 50-39 lead over John McCain in Ohio, according to the newest survey from Public Policy Polling.
It’s a significant change from PPP’s most recent previous Ohio survey, conducted in March, which found Obama trailing McCain 49-41 during the heart of the Jeremiah Wright controversy.
Obama leads by equal margins among men and women, and has a four point lead with white voters while also holding a dominant 75-21 advantage with African Americans.

-----

The 21% black support for McCain should obviously be taken with a grain of salt. But then so should the whole polll... but wow.

2. I don't completely trust PPP though
I think they take a more expansive view of likely voter, because their polling tends to favor Obama a little bit. Still, if they say he's up by 11, maybe he's at least up. I don't care if he wins Ohio by 1 vote as long as he wins it.

6. You should trust them...
They rank 12th over all for the primary season, and would have been much higher had it not been for PN... although we all know what happened there.

The fact is that we may not even need Ohio... but it sure does feel great to see those numbers.

It's going to be a landslide!

4. Hmm... I don't really see these numbers heading south any time soon
Is it too early to predict a landslide?

5. Ohio would be stupid to continue to vote for the...
policies that are wrecking it economically.

That is a weird poll though. As if McCain would get 21% of the AA vote anywhere. Has any Repub gotten numbers like that since 1964?

8. 21% of the total African American vote seems high, but there will always be some
African Americans who vote Republican because of the abortion issue. They seem to poll around 15%, maybe less in some parts of the country.

7. How could McCain have 21% of the Black vote?
I don't see how that's possibly right.

12. Does anyone think Sen. Sherrod Brown as VP would clinch Ohio for Obama?
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 02:49 PM by arewenotdemo
I was for Mark Warner from Virginia but that ship has sailed.

I'm an ex-Buckeye, and I've lost faith in the good judgment of Ohioans these last two elections.

But maybe the tide is turning.

Ohio is needed should McCain take Michigan...and Romney would help him there.

I think it will be too big for their voting machine shenanigans to make any difference.

15. Well of course
Half of the Ohio GOP officials are in jail or on trial for corruption. The Republican party is just in disarray there & seen with contempt. Obama could win Ohio w/o lifting a finger, but I still think he SHOULD campaign there.
