NH Governor refuses to endorse Obama
New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat, is refusing to endorse Barack Obama.

Lynch is cautious to a fault. He is very popular among moderate Republicans in the State House and political community, and most of those folks are ardent McCain backers.

Still, he is the titular head of the NH Democratic Party. His wife was a co-chair of the Clinton campaign. He has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in assistance from Democratic organizations in his two gubernatorial races.

I think it's time to start bugging him:

40. Not irony
Unless someone is hinting that he has anything in common with the original Lynch. I can see no
comparison between not endorsing Obama and the disgusting actions of Willie Lynch.

23. Oh I agree
Being raised in Texas, I was not expecting to see as many NASCAR types with stars and bars stickers on their vehicles as I have seen in NH. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting to see ANY. And though my in-laws are great, they are still very much conservative and that was a shock marrying into the family.

What I need to do is hook up with some progressives whenever I go to visit, for "sanity breaks." :hi:

22. It's not just me
Obama will need Gov. John H. Lynch, the state's most popular Democrat, to campaign actively. Lynch is a still-uncommitted superdelegate who has declined to endorse either Democrat; he has previously waited until his own re-election was in the bag before offering help to other Democrats. Asked last Wednesday if he would campaign for Obama and other Democrats, Lynch replied: "We'll have time to focus on political matters at a subsequent date."

http://www.eagletribune.com/puopinion/local_story_163035951.html?keyword=secondarystory

The announcements by Nordgren and Buckley leave Gov. John Lynch, a superdelegate, as the only member of the New Hampshire delegation to the Denver convention to remain uncommitted.

Lynch spokesman Colin Manning said the governor remains "focused on finishing the legislative session."

http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=NH's+Buckley+endorses+Obama%3B+key+Clinton+supporters+won't+surrender&articleId=a495b916-f910-4fc3-852a-f8c117ee89af

o here we are, the morning of June 4th and Barack Obama by almost all counts is the Democratic nominee. Yet Governor John Lynch, a superdelegate at the Democratic Convention in Denver later this summer, has still not endorsed a candidate.

20. It's the hypocrisy
Look, NH is going to be one of the closest states this fall. Both McCain and Obama are good fits for the electorate here, and both have strong field organizations.

When the incumbent governor plays games like this, it diminishes the image of the Democratic presidential nominee. Add to that the fact that his wife was a Clinton co-chair, and it looks really petty.

John Lynch has benefitted from a re-emergent NH Democratic Party. He needs to stop obsessing about maintaining his approval ratings, be willing to offend a Republican lobbyist or two, and support the Democratic candidate for president.

18. let me address your points
First, Lynch's failure to endorse Obama has been a topic if considerable discussion in political circles for the two weeks or so since Hillary packed it in.

Second, the article shows Lynch playing footsie with McCain yet again. He pulled this same stunt last winter when he introduced McCain at a campaign event.

Third, the author of the article, political reporter John DiStaso, is a Democrat, and his column is mainly sourced by Democratic state chair Ray Buckley.

Fourth, in 2006, Lynch had a sign for Peter Spaulding on his lawn. Spaulding was the incumbent Republican Governor's Councilor (the Council is a 5 member board that approves state contracts, judicial appointments, and the like). Lynch did not have a sign for then-congressional candidate Paul Hodes or his local Democratic legislative candidates.

46. unlikely either Iowa or NH will lose their "first" status, both are swing states
and taking away that will probably lose us the state in the general elections.

and people in most other states don't really care, even if there might be a few politicians and some others who are loud about wanting to change it. most regular voters don't really care.

and this Primary season showed us that people can make their state matter just as much as Iowa and NH if the people work hard and start campaigning in the state rather than crying about Iowa and NH.

Here's a link to Debi, Jr.'s facebook page for the photos close to us. The water cut us off from civilization for a couple of days (except we were able to take a 25-mile-one-way detour to get into town) and we got some rain water in our basement. Otherwise we're just fine.

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2006960&l=4047f&id=1173720469

North Cedar in Cedar Falls and downtown Waterloo got pretty wet, but nothing compared to Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Coralville.

If you want to see more pics head over to www.essentialestrogen.com - I don't know HOW long this recovery is going to take and HOW much it is going to cost! :scared:

Who can be prepared for a flood that is beyond anyone's expectations? Only so much can be done. I'm proud of the State of Iowa in our attempts to protect our state from this crazy flood/evacuation of people AND pets in an organized manner (for the most part)/community assistance to all those displaced/beginning of clean up efforts.

Iowa wasn't prepared for the 1993 floods, was better prepared for the 1999 floods and even better prepared for this summer's floods (remember, we just went through crazy ice storms/blizzards the last two winters). I think Iowa is doing a pretty good job of preparation for natural disasters.

Asked last Wednesday if he would campaign for Obama and other Democrats, Lynch replied: "We'll have time to focus on political matters at a subsequent date."

In 2006, he waited until October to get involved in electing Democrats to state offices and enjoyed a historic victory. If the governor waits that long in 2008, it may be too late for Obama.
