You did DU proud. Hopefully you'll get your due, and not have Huffpost getting the credit for it. :patriot: edit - link to original thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6365886&mesg_id=6365886

3. For those who say DUer is its own little world, and doesn't matter.... |
|
you are very wrong.
Reporters come here to find stories...which is where they found most of their stories throughout the primaries.
We need to help them now.....and give him the stories they deserve. We must be active and diligent....be silent when they want to rile us, and make noise when they want to omit the truth.
IT is so.
Thanks Stephanie.
Now, let's do it again, cause I'm fired up and ready to go! :)

For some time now, I've come to view DU as representative of the population as a whole (from the center-right, or even right in some cases to the left). There are so many moments and historic threads, that prove we all come from different areas, and have our own opinions. The usual dismissal is, "If DU were reality, Dennis Kucinich would be President." Yeah, but try starting an immigration thread here; or a gun thread; or an Israel thread; or even a panhandling or breast feeding thread. We are just as diverse as what's beyond these walls.
And yes, we do have a role in the media. We should do more to embrace that.
Fired up. :D

Huff Post had sent in the link to the Hershey site for their recie and pointed out that it was the same recipe. They didn't credit Stephanie by name, but that could have been because HuffPost didn't provide it?

8. Big props to STEPHANIE |
|
She is the original source for this story. And Cindy's lil' cookie-snatching tale is spreading. Food blogs, political blogs plus the MSM.
Ms. McCain is scheduled to take a trip to Vietnam this Thursday, so she won't have to face the cameras of shame. I guess that leaves her husband to answer for her crimes. I wonder how Mr. Grumpy will handle it?

To cover up YET another youthful indiscretion. There is great speculation she adopted the Indian child to cover up the breaking drug stealing story. She is a piece of SHIT.

9. This is really stupid. You don't think seriously Michelle bakes cookies either? Who cares? |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 04:49 PM by saracat
What differnce does it make if they got a recipe from a friend or a magazine or the back of a package so long as it is one they like? Bill put the WH Chef's recipe in contention. So what! At least the other cookies were edible. Sheesh. And how many of use create our own recipes? I am always getting recipes from friends or magazines and my "cheescake" recipe I make every year is from a magazine? So what?

26. So that makes either Michelle or Cindy McCain cookie bakers? |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 05:20 PM by saracat
And you seriously think these two issues have anything in common? Whether justified or not, pride in country is a lot more important than cookie baking! or do you think cookie baking is the equivelent of "swiftboating" JK's military record? Sorry this remains stupid. And of course the repubs are targeting Michelle. They targeted Hillary in 1992 as well.It is up to her and the campaign to deal with it and they have a lot more concerns than this stupidity.
I really think the nominee spouse shoud not be attacked, on either side, but it is going to happen anyway. I think we look absurd when we decend to this level though. And we are only asking for them to attack us even worse by doing so. This is like Bush's "bring it on" and over "cookies".

29. You forget there would be no cookie bake-off without Hillary |
|
Her cookie comment in 1992 is the reason why Family Circle magazine started the bake-off. And maybe it's time to kill this ridiculous insulting contest once and for all.
The point you refuse to acknowledge is that Mrs. McCain gets a pass for every single callous thing she's done while Michelle Obama is scrutinized and demonized on a regular basis.
The fact that you brush off assaults on the character of Michelle Obama, yet take the time to defend the republican candidate's wife says a lot about your allegiances.

I can't believe everyone is making a big deal out of this.It was a probably campaign worker who submitted the recipe anyway,I'm sure Hillary didn't rifle through her recipes either and neither will Michelle, they're all busy women IN THE MIDDLE OF A PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN!.Why are we dissing anyone for "fake" cookie recipes on a progressive board?

You don't pass on poetry as your own that someone else wrote... you don't steal ideas... recipes are carefully guarded property and shouldn't be stolen either.
It's very basic! Stealing is WRONG!

20. Giving credit is proper |
|
Do you tell your friends 'I created this recipe' or do you tell them 'I got this out of a magazine years ago'?
The proper thing for Mrs. McCain to do is to say, 'my favorite cookie recipe comes from Hershey's - here it is'.
It's not really about who bakes them.
