POLL: Obama's lead slipping in Minnesota
New poll numbers show Barack Obama’s lead over Johon McCain slipping among Minnesota voters.

The exclusive 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS/SURVEY USA Poll shows Obama holding a one-point lead over McCain, with the margin of error at a statistical dead heat Tuesday.

Just two weeks ago, Obama held a five-point lead in Minnesota.

Nationally, it’s a slightly different story: A new ABC News poll has Obama ahead of McCain 48 to 42-percent.

=========

Few days ago I commented on how McCain is running an effective ad in Minnesota and, perhaps, in other "battle ground states." He emphasizes his roots, the service in the armed forces that has been going for three generations in his family. No doubt, this intends to draw a contrast with Obama who does not have much of roots - and this may matter for voters who do value such things.

No Obama ads to be found so I suspect that this may be the reason for the recent poll.

Of course, there are a little more than four months to election day.

2. Inherited privilege?
That definition certainly seems to apply in this case.

4. For the ones for whom it matters
trace their families if not to the Mayflower at least to the Civil War.

Where they can go to a small town and point to a house built by their great grandfather. Where both Hillary and Edwards were talking about their "blue collar" background.

As I say, this should not matter and, of course, there are millions who came to this country bound and sold for slavery.

But this is a line that McCain is pushing, that can contrast him with Obama who, on his father side is "only" first generation American.

For many voters this matters.

8. So Obama's visiting the house in Indiana that his great-great-grandfather built...
(and remains in his family to this day) means nothing?

That's not roots?

10. I'm first generation American on one side, 3rd on the other
I forgot that ignorant American voters limit their definition of what it means to be an American

13. Seemingly benign terms like "roots," "heritage," "full-blooded," "DNA," and so on...
...provide plausible deniability to those who are too cowardly to just come forward and declare their racism. Did you read http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/opinion/columnists/orl-parker1408may14,0,3577316,print.column">this article? It was published several weeks ago and, when I read it, I could not believe that such thinly-veiled bigotry was allowed to stain the opinion page of my local newspaper.

11. Yet no one says the PPP Ohio poll looks like an outlier
The one showing Obama with a double digit lead there over McCain.

7. "likely voters"
Others have posted about this poll. I think it's important to note that it is of "likely voters." This most likely won't include any of the first-time voters that Obama has brought into the fold.

9. I haven't heard about any Obama ads. I wondering what the wait is. McCain has been showing plenty
and the MSM is giving that dumb ad free air-time as well.

18. be careful, sometimes Republicans talk up some flawed polls
in order for the Democrats to spend money in a state they are already winning in.

of course Obama has to consider everything. and he has enough that he would be able to spend there while still having enough.

the Republicans are also having their convention there so Mccain might go up a bit . but i can't see Mccain winning there.

22. Don't worry about Minnesota. This is Obama country.
In the end, it all comes down to turnout, and Obama supporters are going to turn out in far greater numbers in this state than McCain's people.

24. This is a crappy SUSA robocall outlier.
It also puts Coleman 10% over Franken....and over 50%...which NO POLL has put him in over a year.

It's B.S. Thanks for posting here. Also, thanks for your concern. Obama is going to CREAM McCain in Minnesota.
