More Holy Crap... Obama 47 McCain 43 in ....wait for it.... Florida
THE RACE: The presidential race in Florida

^------

THE NUMBERS

Barack Obama, 47 percent

John McCain, 43 percent

^------

OF INTEREST:

Obama wins Florida's youngest voters by a wide margin, while he and McCain split those age 35 and up. Nearly one in four say they are less likely to support McCain because of his age; if elected he would be 72 when sworn in as president. One in 20 says the same about Obama's being black. Whites back McCain, 50 percent to 40 percent, while virtually all blacks support Obama. Independents lean toward Obama by 10 percentage points, and more of them oppose Hillary Rodham Clinton being Obama's running mate than support it.

^------

The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted from June 9-16 and involved telephone interviews with 1,453 likely Florida voters. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

THE GOP CAN NOT WIN WITHOUT FLORIDA.

1. Wait til Floridians hear McSame, Crist, and Martinez now support
offshore drilling; the Floridians are gonna be pissed! Another boneheaded move from the rethugs.

19. I am a Floridian
and I have already fired off emails to all of them. This is something the state feels strongly about. A big mistake on their part.

3. My mom said predicted that McCain's age might be an issue for older voters
Because they are the ones who know that they themselves probably would not be up for the job at their age. But I think if Democrats make an issue of McCain's age it could alienate seniors and make them feel like they are being threatened or replaced.

This is really good news...pretty surprising. I'm somewhat skeptical, but Quinnipiac is a very reputable pollster, though I don't know what their record is in Florida. Their expertise is polling the Northeast.

8. This is a result of Obama finally getting to campaign in Florida!
Hopefully he can keep the momentum going with more appearances there. I never thought FL would be competitive, let alone that Obama would have a solid lead there. Amazing.

12. Good, I hope this holds. It will force McCain's hand to take either Crist or Lieberman as VP.
Which might just give them FL, but will weaken them elsewhere.

Thank you Florida for making my day!

13. It is good news
There are still a lot of undecideds at this point (which is to be expected). As someone else said, without Florida, the Republicans are pretty much dead in the water. Let's hope they have to throw some serious resources here to try to save it. Meanwhile, we'll bleed them dry elsewhere.

20. bottom line - any stats coming from Fl. are suspect

the counting of Fl. votes remains interesting.

same with polls coming from Fl.

it doesn't matter what the people of Fl. want. they get whatever the neo cons want.

21. We could be witnessing the start of a landslide
As McCain keeps flip-flopping and sticking his foot in his mouth with his statements, not to mention the debates, over the course of the next 20 weeks until election day, we may be seeing poll numbers out of this world. When you see states like Virginia and possibly North Carolina going blue, that's telling you something. It'll be interesting to see what they're like in late August (post-Convention). At that time, the GOP may start thinking about selecting another candidate at their convention. We've just gotta keep working hard and remind people to vote, to prevent any sort of complacency.

right up until the day before the election.

We will never win Florida again. Face it.

26. Not quite true. Look up a polling archive. Ohio virtually every poll had Kerry behind.
Florida was a jump ball when it comes to the polling.

25. McCain's comment about drilling off of florida means one of two things:
1) He's trying to lose.

2) The GOP already has enough voter fraud organized in Florida that they will steal that state's votes again, so it doesn't matter WHAT McCain says.

27. Send Gore down there a couple of times
before the election to remind Democrats that every vote counts and that it's important that it not even be close.

I am actually beginning to feel a bit optimistic! :bounce:
