Presidential Race Becoming Very Well Defined |
|
I am finding that this year’s Presidential race is shaping up to be one in which the candidate’s positions on major issues differ sharply, and are clearly defined. Voters are going to have to make a choice this year, and it won’t be because things are muddled.
Just yesterday, John McCain came out in favor of drilling off-shore for oil, a position which he has consistently opposed for twenty years or so. Barack Obama of course, opposed this and wants the country to head in a new direction, toward renewable and alternative energy sources. Two clearly defined paths, totally distinct from one another.
McCain wants to keep troops in Iraq essentially forever, Obama wants us out ASAP.
McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, another position he formerly opposed, while Obama wants to change the tax direction of this country back to taxing the wealthy more.
Where McCain once stood out and opposed torture, he now seems to be embracing it. Obama, the Constitutional scholar, thinks that the Constitution should still work for us.
McCain wants to more of the same for healthcare, while Obama wants national health insurance.
This is just a sampling of issues where the differences between McCain and Obama, between old and new, are totally in focus.
Never before have the voters in this country been given a clearer choice for more of the same or real change. If the American public in November votes for more of the same, I believe that we will signal the end of the Republic as we have known it. This is our final chance to get off this misguided road we’ve been on.

1. I agree, and I think it's wonderful! |

I recall that on the night of the final primaries when Obama clinched the nomination, Tim Russert was saying that for the first time in decades we will be choosing between 2 widely different views on all of the issues. We really do have a choice. Russert was looking forward to following the race; and I was hoping that since he was so thrilled about us having a true choice on the issues, maybe MSNBC might keep us informed on the issues for a change instead of just following the horse race.
