St. Pete Times reports Senator Bob Graham say drilling plan "incomprehensible"

Bob Graham: Drilling plan "incomprehensible"

Former Sen. Bob Graham tells us he's horrified by the new John McCain/Charlie Crist drilling stance: "It's incomprehensible to me, frankly. First the rationale of doing this - that there's a relationship between the moratorium on drilling and $4 a gallon gasoline. I doubt there's an economist alive that would make the case that there's a near or longer term relationship between the moratorium and the price of gasoline."

Even if the rigs are safer than they used to be, "the real danger is all of the onshore facilities that are necessary to support those platforms," said Graham, also dismissing the state's rights argument. Florida already has the authority to allow drilling between three and 12 miles offshore, depending on the location.

Nor is he comfortable with letting state lawmakers make the call: "The legislature has considered a lot of what I consider to be rather strange proposals as a way of generating revenue - everything from dramatically expanding the lottery to selling off our highway systems, big chunks of it. So I would be worried."

And by the way, Graham also told Buzz he hasn't talked to any representatives of the Obama campaign about vice presidential prospects.

2. Certainly on this issue in Florida, and perhaps the nation, as well.
And, of course, he was right about Iraq from the start.

6. Thanks, Senator Bob Graham..
Time for all the experts to come out and say why this is a very bad idea. And, don't trust the current Florida legislature..
