Good news McSame hits on another unpopular idea
Sen. John McCain called Wednesday for the construction of 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030 and pledged $2 billion a year in federal funds "to make clean coal a reality," measures designed to reduce dependence on foreign oil.

Great idea John now tell which Americans they will now be living near a nuclear reactor. Nuclear power really unpopular with the baby boomers that remember three mile island. The same voters McSame has been targeting for last few weeks.

2. I hope he keeps coming up with bad ideas....
and saying stuff like "it's not important" when the troops come home and that we can stay in Iraq forever.

It makes me feel better all the time. :-)

I never realized that when they called him a "maverick" they just meant "tone-deaf".

13. Well duh, that's a no brainer

Put them in the poorest areas of the country where the residents have no political clout to protect their interests.

:sarcasm:

He may be a bastard, but he's not entirely stupid.

5. Actually, Obama favors nuclear power, too.

He's against Yucca mountain storage, but his energy policy, available on his website, includes promotion of nuclear power. It just isn't one of his talking points.

6. This is actually his best idea yet
Nuclear would be a great bridge to an alternative energy future.

Three Mile Island, once you get past the hysteria, proved that the technology was safe, and worked. The maximum additional radiation (if you were on the plant boundary the entire time) was no more than the natural background radiation exposure for a year.

I live less than 100 miles from the largest nuclear plant in the U.S. I would be glad if they expanded it.

And I lived four years (Went to Niagara U.) just down the road from Love Canal. But! Right UNDERNEATH the Ni Mo Power Plant.

19. Chances of that happening are slim to none
Even in a TMI type accident, you'd be exposed to far less radiation than getting a single X-Ray.

21. I'd feel better if security around the plant was up to par.
Studies in the past have shown that its easily infiltrated. I guess its not so much the plant... but the people protecting it. I dont want it used as a weapon.

16. Just because your area covered up the problems with the plant doesn't make it safe
The Palo Verde plant in AZ is the largest nuclear power plant in the United States, so it got a lot more attention when they had "issues". Said "issues" took place on a dangerously regular basis.

If you're stupid enough to believe the government's bullshit about nuclear power being "safe", go for it. We non-sheeple, on the other hand, prefer something that isn't capable of exposing the public to dangerous levels of radiation, if/when it malfunctions.

17. It's a bad idea
1) start up time are too slow. The building of 45 new plants is a very long process by which time alternative energies would already be online

2) there simply no place to put the waste, people are even more negative to storing the waste near them than building the plant

3) national security issues over the waste

4) the lack of nuclear fuel in the world means that the nuclear power simply wouldn't last long as a solution for a large energy consumer like the US

5) they tend to fail in spectacular fashion leaving long term negative impact

6) the cost of managing waste basically extends forever, hence the long term cost far out weigh short term gains.

23. I'm not anti-nuclear but there is a problem and a high cost with this waste issue
and building your energy plan around... well build 45 nuclear plants and our energy problems will be solved. No, there will be much more problems with waste and safety.

After all, that's what our country's been doing with computer-related waste for some time....

22. I think McSame has Constanza-itis.
How can he hit so many anti-home runs?

George's remedy was to do the opposite of his gut instinct. Hope McSame doesn't figure this out.
