OK, Obama isn't perfect. The Bushites? The GOP? Nuke 'em. Nuke the bastards.
Nuke 'em for the "war."

Nuke 'em for the hate.

Nuke 'em for the cheating.

Nuke 'em for all the money they had then that we will have now.

Nuke 'em for Al Gore and John Kerry. And for Max Cleland.

Nuke 'em for 2000. And 2004.

I was an idealist all my life - even through Nixon and Reagan - but don't feed me bullshit anymore. Don't preach purity to me. President Gore is not finishing his second term.

People I loved - who fought for this country in every way, military, Rosie the Riveter, civil rights and otherwise - died in the last seven years and they hated what their country has become under George W. Bush.

They are gone. But I am not. And neither are you.

Do not underestimate this struggle. But do not underestimate your role in it, either. Purity is for when we win. But first we have to win.

So nuke 'em. Nuke the bastards. And contribute through DU. Screw the Repukes who for the first time in my Truman-baby lifetime won't outraise us, and so are whining.

Nuke 'em.

3. We either hold candidates accountable NOW or never...
Purity is for when we win.

Yeah, and after we win, when we start complaining about the stupid shit Obama will do then, and calls to hold him accountable will be silenced by talk of keeping seats during the mid-terms, and then when that's over with, there will be more talk of not criticizing the guy because his reelection is coming up, then another mid-term. By the time we get to criticize him for being an idiot in office, he'll be a lame duck at the end of his second term.

5. I agree, I don't understand why some are willing to give up the need for proof
that their wishes and hopes will be realized until after it just might be too late...I just don't see why it is wrong to voice a very real concern concerning how today's announcement by our future commander in chief was retold....if we really want change, we the people are going to have to ensure change is what we get or we will continue just more of the same no doubt.

6. What pisses me off is that so many people insisted that Obama's campaign is a "bottom up"...
campaign, a campaign where the people have a voice. One of those voices, indeed, the most important, is that of the detractor, and yet we see so many of Obama's supporters not even support the message of his own damn campaign, its pathetic.

9. OK, here is a link for you right here on DU.
I am sick and tired of this Bush-is-the-same bullshit.

Enjoy your next president: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3361702

And fuck you on that message stuff. I go back to Gene McCarthy. Don't fucking lecture me on idealism.

12. I don't understand why you chose that link to get your message across to someone?
I see it this way, we all know what bush and company want for this country, its more than obvious, and we all know for a fact that he sees the constitution as nothing more than a piece of paper, so you have to understand that for any politician at this time and place to even remotely side with his wants does appear suspect, if we know what he and his cabal are up to, how is it that those who live and breathe in the political limelight seem so unaware at times?

13. I know why he sent that link, to try to shut down dissent...
period. To point out a candidate's faults, on the hopes that maybe they will improve, is verboten for some people.

7. I didn't say don't criticize him. I said nuke the other side. Go ahead, vote Nader.
But we have had better people than George W. Bush or John McSame in office.

Do what you will. But get the fuck out of the way, because this time, we are leaving the angst behind.

Yes We Can.

8. Who the FUCK said anything about voting for NADER!!!!
Gods damn it all, I fucking hate simplistic whining sycophants who replaced their brains with campaign stickers and have no fucking clue what nuance is.

11. Here's a clue for you, just because I don't blindly worship the guy doesn't mean I'm not going to...
vote for him. Is that understood, or do you need me to write it out in simpler words, in crayon?

14. I find your lack of faith disturbing (actually invigorating). I love DU.
I run circles around most people, but as Jeeves would say, I find you "invigorating." OK, we disagree, but I sure enjoyed getting worked up, which I don't normally do here. I suspect we are ultimately on the same side, but disagree on this one. So be it.

Reminds me of my long-ago college roommate, with whom I parried, "Fuck You. No, Fuck You."

Intellectual, no. But those were the days.

Even earlier, I DID love crayons. That "Flesh" color was weird, though.

15. I agree that the goal should be to remove Republicans from power...
but it should only be the first step in a long, drawn out battle for reform in this country. Obama isn't going to be an ally in that fight, but an enemy instead.

16. He is not the enemy. And it will be a long fight. indeed.
Got to really ID your enemies, and if Bush and his enablers are the enemy, it's pretty tough to lump Barack in there.

Let's compromise and say you don't see Barack as an ally in the struggle. OK. But don't lump him in with Reagan/Bush/Cheney/Rove. Tactically, if not ethically, lines must be drawn, and "enemy" is a strong word.

Differences were sometimes not drawn in 2000. And look how that turned out.

17. He's a typical establishment professional politician...
in the same league with, for example, Hillary Clinton. I wouldn't call him an enemy of the Bush variety, but of the Clinton variety instead.

18. We disagree, but thanks for the dialogue.
His biography and color alone are extraordinary to those of my era. They are unprecedented.

He gives people Hope. For someone of my age, whose parents grew up under FDR, this is not lightly dismissed.

I don't think he is a Clinton. I think he's a genuine game-changer. At least, we both agree that we want a chance to see who is right here.

19. I don't know about you, but Obama has already proven himself to be exactly...
what I expected him to be, a typical center-right politician. Not as bad as the Republicans, that's true, but there is nothing earth shattering about him, just look at his campaign website if you don't believe me.

Obviously you have to support the nominee here on DU, but that aside: Who is/was your candidate?

21. My ideal candidates, in order of me wanting them as candidates...
Cornell West

Howard Zinn

Bernie Sanders

Dennis Kucinich

Oddly enough, out of all the people in this list, only DK is a Democrat, but that isn't surprising, I'm not a member of the Democratic party, they are far too conservative for me, I'm just lucky I live in an open primary state. If a viable left-wing third party existed in this country, I'd vote for them instead, as things stand now, I'm forced to vote for the Democrats.
