WHO the 'H' is Sen. Russ Feingold?!
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 08:37 AM by Breeze54
Senator Feingold

http://www.progressivepatriotsfund.com/about-senator-feingold/index.html

“Feingold won big after voting against the Iraq war and Bush’s tax cuts,
and having cast the lone vote in the Senate against the Patriot Act”

-Chicago Tribune-

Russ Feingold is a respected and independent voice in the United States Senate - best known as an effective legislator who works across party lines. When he first ran for the U.S. Senate in 1992, Senator Feingold pledged to hold Listening Sessions in each one of Wisconsin's 72 counties every year. To date he has held over 1,000 of these open, town hall style meetings. Listening Sessions provide the people of Wisconsin an opportunity to discuss issues directly with Senator Feingold without an appointment, without making a political contribution, and without having to go to Washington, D.C. These meetings have been the foundation and driving force behind Feingold's legislative agenda, and in the last few years he has brought his signature Listening Sessions outside of Wisconsin to seven states including: Alabama, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, Iowa, Texas and Colorado.

6. Senator Feingold is a shining example
of Wisconsin progressives. He follows in the footsteps of Senator William Proxmire, who was also a great progressive.

Can we tell that even though I live in Iowa now, I was born and raised in Wisconsin!

Senator Feingold would be a great addi ton to the Democratic ticket this year, but I do worry that he may be needed in the Senate even more!

34. This session will mark the 47th listening session of 2008, and the 1127th since 1993
He said:
"When I first ran for the U.S. Senate in 1992, I made a promise to hold open meetings in each of the state's 72 counties every year to listen to people's concerns and answer their questions. I have kept that promise, meeting approximately 48,463 Wisconsinites at these sessions since I was first elected. That's the equivalent of listening to more than every person in Marinette County (estimated total population 43,364) or listening to more than everyone in the city of Fond du Lac(population 42,095).

Listening Sessions, which I believe are one of the most rewarding parts of my job, are designed to allow people to discuss concerns, and listen to friends and neighbors do the same in an open environment. Except for my brief introductory remarks, I spend the entire time listening, taking notes and responding to questions. Wisconsinites give me great ideas for new legislation at these meetings, and when they tell me that they are having a problem with a federal agency, I can try to help. Listening Sessions work in Wisconsin because so many people come and tell me what's on their mind.

Due to the unpredictable schedule of the U.S. Senate, I usually schedule my Listening Sessions about two weeks in advance. Please also note that on rare occasions, Listening Sessions may need to be postponed if I need to return to Washington, D.C., for legislative votes. Notices of postponements will be posted on this page and my staff will also alert the local media to help us get the word out."

63. Here are my Cliff's Notes of the session.
I went with my mom and dad and 2 other DUers.

It was interesting and awesome. There were a few RW fanaticals there including one who apparently attends all of his listening sessions. He was kind and considerate to all.

He talked a lot about FISA and campaign finance reform. There were a couple RW's focussed on immigration, a doctor who asked that he focus on healthcare, and of course, me who told Russ that I am a political junkie and he is my Elvis.

:loveya:

And whoisalhedges asked him if he'd accept the VP spot if offered. His reply was cute. He said that the question is a bit of a setup. If he said yes, the press could run with it and say, "Feingold said he wants VP spot, press conference held in Genesee, WI". He said that he's open to doing what Obama would want him to do, but he assured us that Obama would NOT be making that call. Earlier he spoke about how he caught a lot of flack for publically disagreeing with Obama regarding the FISA bill. He said he'd been pretty much asked to shut up... but couldn't.

Here are a few pics. It was a bummer because when hedges was taking our pic, I was so star-struck that my camera was still in video mode. Capturing images from the 5 second video blows.

And the vehicle of the RW jack-ass who follows Russ around. This guy went on a few minute tirade about how the liberals have put the country in danger, that we all have forgotten 9/11, yada yada yada. After he spoke, I told Russ (and this guy) that I am personally SURE 9/11 would not have happened under a Gore admnistration and how angry I was about the 2000 elections being stolen (a few audible scoffs followed):

Get a grip. I vote ONLY on issue's and intelligence, not looks. After all, I was one of the most
vocal supporters of Dennis Kucinich (and still am a supporter) but it doesn't hurt to remark on
a persons affect, especially a candidate for a political office, as long as it's positive, imho.
