Obama is a blank canvas in many ways - we must keep up the pressure
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 12:24 PM by debbierlus
I like Obama. However, if he is truly going to be a different leader, he must start NOW. Not with the promise of what he will do with future tests, but how he will handle this first test.

This FISA bill needs to be filibustered. I was very disappointed to read that Obama thinks this is a 'compromise' bill. Bullshit. The ACLU is fighting this thing tooth and nail...

The ACLU says the new deal is "crap" and unconstitutional, comparing it to a lousy bill the Senate passed last year.

"Remember that horrible bill the Senate passed earlier this year? The one that had virtually no Fourth Amendment protections? Ok, now imagine Congressman Hoyer and Senator Bond putting a really pretty, really meaningless bow around it to distract you from what’s actually inside," Amanda Simon writes at the ACLU's blog. "Then they added a giveaway to the phone companies. There. Now you have the current FISA bill."

By defending this bill, Obama is failing a first crucial test about he will actually lead.

Please contact the Obama campaign and his Senatorial website and tell them you demand he show the leadership he is promising as President NOW. We CAN NOT BE LIKE THE REPUBLICANS, we must hold our representatives responsible at every turn and NEVER let up. This isn't about bashing Obama, it is about the people making sure that we will receive the CHANGE we are being promised.

2. I agree 1000%. Have you sent a letter to your Senators thru the ACLU website yet?
I just got an acknowledgement from Sen. Casey that he got mine. I'll be calling his office on Monday, too. I also just told a fundraiser for Obama who called that I'm taking a wait-and-see on giving him any more money. I will wait and see what he does wrt FISA, whether he has the stuff to stand up for the Constitution.

3. Feingold was very clear. It's not compromise, it's capitulation.
I have contacted both his Campaign HQs and Senate office. The people I spoke with were genuinely concerned about passing on my entire message.

Obama's our politician and this is all about the change WE can make right? Let's get cracking.
