Naysayers--what is YOUR strategy on how to run against McCain in a time of war??
While Repugs are trying their best to paint Obama as too young, naive, inexperienced, "foreign"/exotic, too black, and soft on terrorism (with ties to terrorism??)?

THAT is what Obama has to combat--those are the vile smears the right is putting out there.

He can't do ANYTHING at this time that would lend credence to those smears.

Something tells me Obama knows exactly what he's doing because pretty soon there will be debates and he will have to answer questions about all his votes.

Nevertheless, for those doubting him and threatening to pull back support--what would YOUR strategy be?

5. mccain HAS NO war record
whatever he did/did not do as a POW does not qualify him for anything in the real world

he was a party animal, bottom of his class, lost five planes, spent time being tortured, dumped his wife who had waited for him throughout his captivity to marry a rich former model, got into politics based on surviving being a POW (and, admirably, declining early release based on family ties), got caught up in Keating Five scandal, has had potty mouth shouting matches with many other Senators, called his wife a c*nt in front of reporters...

WHAT "war record?"

what RECORD?

3. At this point Americans don't really care about the war. It's the economy
and in particular the impact of the price of oil on the economy.

My advice is Obama play the game where people are concerned, and avoid doing double dutch with McCain twirling the jump rope on the war.

4. do or say anything to win? Is that what you're advocating?
that would be politics as usual. Obama is being held to a higher standard.

8. No, but because their strategy is to tie him to terrorism
Obama has to do his best to combat that meme.

7. Oh wow, it's 2004 again.
We ran John Kerry, a decorated war hero in 2004, because of those same fears. It didn't work. We can't run a campaign by trying to be a candidate the republicans would vote for. The republicans are going to vote for a republican. The Republican mode of attack is to take your strongest points and turn them against you. That's what "swiftboating" is. It doesn't matter how Obama votes. The republicans are going to attack him anyway. That's what they do.
I don't think that supporting amnesty for the telecoms is going to give Obama a reputation of being strong against terrorists. Rather, the republicans will crow that he's weak for having caved in to them on this issue.

9. I actually agree. I feel a better strategy is to just
be the complete opposite of McCain. But what do I know?
