The New York Times did an article comparing Bush to McCain. It is helpful, but the so-called differences are misleading, because the detail shows that Bush and McCain actually do agree. For example, off shore oil drilling is listed as a difference, yet Bush and McCain now agree on the issue. Likewise, on Federal spending, which is listed as a difference, the NYT states: "Mr. McCain would also put a one-year freeze on discretionary spending, except veterans benefits and the military. Mr. Bush has had a similar freeze in place." So, it is a misnomer to say they mostly disagrre on the subjects identified in the article. Is this just another example of McCain getting a free pass?
If anything, this article underscores just how similar Bush and McCain are.
