Once Obama is elected, what do you hope he does and doesn't do?
besides ending the war ASAP?

I hope he continues to look out for the environment and not give in one iota to Republicans who would like to compromise it.

I hope he does exactly what he said he'd do and talks to other countries, even Iran, and engages them in diplomacy and understanding. I really want him to stick to that notion.

I hope he does NOT continue with his religious talk after he's elected, and instead keeps that subject out of politics entirely, with the exception of him saying God Bless America whenever he's done addressing the nation.

I hope he does NOT put any Republicans in his cabinet, like has been rumored. Fuck them. The country needs to wash its hands of any Republican germs. :smoke:

3. I can see so much to be done here with infrastructure and energy policy.
Everything from seperating sanitary sewers fro mstorm sewers in older cities to developing low energy mass transit.

5. I hope he doesn't promote nuclear power.
I don't believe the notion that nuclear power in the US hasn't killed anyone. I think radioactive material gets into the environment in the normal operation of a nuclear power plant and causes cancer.

6. Mostly I hope that he creates a new spirit
in this country, a spirit of optimism and hope. America has losts it's "can do" spirit and I hope Obama can bring it back.

8. I hope he comes to the American people and lays out --
succinctly and thoroughly -- all that the current administration has left us with. What we're going to have to face, in which order he plans to address them, how we're going to address them, and what to expect.

If we're made aware of the enormity of the task he's being saddled with, we'll be less likely to be bitching and moaning that he's not "fixing" our problems quickly enough.

I also feel this would engage the populace, engender a feeling that we're all on the same team working together toward the same goals.

11. Here's my $.02
Hope he does:

*Immediately have bush cheney and rumsfeld detained to keep them from fleeing the country while possible treason charges are investigated.
*Have rove arrested and put on trial for treason in the Plame case and seek the death penalty.
*Immediately put an end to all "faith-based" social programs and restore authority to government health and regulatory agencies.
*Ask congress for funds to repair America's crumbling infrastructure providing jobs and improving commerce.
*Stop construction of the useless "wall" on the mexican border and draft a sensible immigration policy.
*Put pressure on congress to repeal the FISA law and end retroactive immunity for telecoms.
*Pressure congress to begin impeachment proceedings against at least two and possibly four supreme court injustices.
*And of course stop wasting our money and killing our kids in Iraq

Hope he doesn't:

*Wimp out on any of the things I listed above

...and pushing legislation to break up media conglomerates. Ideally, I wish he'd cut the defense departments budget by 2/3, but I know that's not going to happen.

I agree with you on not putting Republicans in the cabinet. I liked Bill Clinton, but the one move he made that pissed me off the most, was putting a Republican in charge of one of the most important departments any administration has, the Defense Department.

I sincerely hope Obama realizes we have a wealth of talent in our own ranks.

15. Review every single action of the previous administration and
Undo those things needing to be undone. I think he's already promised something along those lines.
http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/05/28/bushs-laws-will-be-scrutinized-if-i-become-president-obama-says/

Hang tough and stay honest with the American people regarding our over-consumption and global responsibility.
Senator Obama told a crowd in Oregon last week, "We can't drive our SUVs and, you know, eat as much as we want and keep our homes on, you know, 72 degrees all the time, whether we're living in the desert or we're living in the tundra, and then just expect every other country is going to say OK."

He's right on both those issues. If he can stick to these principles, then everything else that matters should follow.
