I really don't want to hear anything else about this.

I didn't hear about any other candidate and what religious house they visited during elections.

The media isn't slick by half.

There really isn't anything else to discuss on this.

with Jehovah's Witnesses while he's at it.

3. I'm just tired of the dumb shit that some try to pull
Even MSNBC dumbasses understand why Obama and Mosques is not a desirable situation for our Democratic Nominee.

So much bullshit, so little time.

4. But the media desperately wants Obama to torpedo himself!
The media feels it must get what it wants, and that is for Obama to have a publicly financed campaign that visits Mosques!

They want a circus...the same as some here at DU. :eyes:

Kinda almost funny that this is being made an issue.

6. I can't wait to see what else the MSM/DU feels that Obama must do to become president
We have dozens of news cycles between now and the election, and I'm sure there will be dozens of demands.

8. Whatever it is, you can bet that it will be about twice as much as any other candidate
ever.

By the time the Obamas get to the White House, they will have fucking totally earned it, and then some.

18. It was a Democrat, Keith Ellison, that expressed these concerns.
Don't just go blame the media for everything. The Obama campaign is not perfect, nor is it expected to be. Any criticism of it, and you just take it the wrong way.

21. It's the MSM reporting the "concerns"
They are the "filter" and determine what is important and what isn't. Lately they're taking on and talking about a lot of what isn't important, or they've given different standards to the different candidates. I'm sure every Democrat has "concerns" that they'd like tackled, I am just not aware of what good it does to voice them in this manner when the guy hasn't been elected president yet! This is especially true when the MSM takes every "concern" and blows it up into a week's worth of "news."

22. It's a valid concern because it goes against the message of his campaign.
As a vivid Obama supporter, it disappointed me deeply.

And Ellison must feel deeply about it go public with it.

9. Heard McCain went to a Baptist Church last Sunday somewhere.....
and it was the first time I had heard of him going to any church.

But you see McCain's got Lieberman tailing him. From my understanding, that's all he requires.

I think he'll go before that but will be smart enough to go with the proper entourage. He's navigating this minefield very intelligently.

12. Even people at DU presume Obama has a greater responsibility to Muslims, than does McCain.
Why?

Both are Christian men trying to get elected to higher office.

Why is Obama expected to reach out to Muslims, but McCain isn't? Votes are votes.

Or have people even at DU subconsciously made the Obama/Muslim association?

16. Because we are Democrats - we hold ourselves to a higher standard.
And it is not just about not visiting mosques. But it seems the campaign is purposefully trying to avoid them.

23. Probably because he's being called a Muslim, which isn't happening
with the other side.

So if we hold ourselves to a higher standard, then we also enjoy committing media suicide by setting ourselves up to lose. Guess you haven't noticed that it is the media who decides what's what for the interpretation of most of the voting population.

Another catch22 brought to you by those who have Higher standards.

He damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

And then we ask ourselves how did we lose?

25. And how many of those 10% who think he is a Muslim are going to vote for him anyways?
There is a difference between political courage for principles and political convenience.

Had Barack been in the Senate in 2002 and had aspirations to be President, would he have voted Yes because it was political suicide at the time to do so - and the media would be all over for him for it. Or would he vote No on principle.

If he is sacrificing principles already, it means the Right Wingers are already winning. And if we as Democrats don't grow a backbone and fight for their ideals, there is not much of a true democratic party left.

I understand what he is doing - but that is not to say it is quite disappointing and goes against message for unity.

13. He should visit NASA and NIH facilities
He could find out what today's top researchers would like the next President to do for them.

Enough of this catering to old beliefs; let's start working on real problems.

20. It's not criticism; it's a suggestion
After eight years of Bush, it would be refreshing for our candidate to explicity show his support for the nation's science enterprise. I certainly won't hold it against Obama if he doesn't do this, but it would be a fruitful gesture.

19. Funny, how make such a mockery of the situatuon.
These are human beings we are talking about. Who one author referred to as the "New Negreos" for the discrimination they face in this country. You guys are doing nothing but to aid in the anti-Muslim sentiment in this country. Somehow these people are different than other people.

If his campaign restricted Ellison from speaking out to Muslims about Obama, there is something wrong with that. I would hope that a liberal progressive as yourself would see that.

He will crawl on his knees through the snow to get there, if there is still snow. Every one of the eight years he is in office.

Through hoops, man, through hoops.
