GOP Senator Runs New Ad Touting His Work With Barack Obama
GOP Senator Runs New Ad Touting His Work With Barack Obama

By Greg Sargent - June 24, 2008, 6:09PM

This is a good one. Check out this new ad that GOP Senator Gordon Smith, who's locked in a tough re-election fight in Oregon, has just released. The spot highlights his work with Barack Obama, who, last we checked, is the Democratic standard bearer...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGDJijGCeO4

"Who says Gordon Smith helped lead the fight for better gas mileage and a cleaner environment?" the ad asks. "Barack Obama! He joined with Gordon and broke through a 20-year deadlock to pass new laws which increase gas mileage for automobiles."

This obviously is helpful to Obama, who can cite it as proof that even Republicans agree that he has been successful working across party lines.

Late Update: The ad is also further proof of just how far Smith will run away from the Republican brand in this blue state. -ek

2. More good news
Smith will run from McCain when he's in town.

Obama will campaign for Smith's opponent when he's in town.

No matter how you slice it, its a win

5. This guy is running so far to the left here in Oregon it is amazing. He also has an ad with two
Democratic (or former) members of the state legislature (I think) who are supporting him.

If one were to just watch the ads, it would be easy to think the election was between two Democrats. Of course, his record isn't quite so progressive..

7. I like it - good for him! He sees where Americans are heading and
wants to benefit by association with Obama. However, I'd rather have another Dem in the Senate.

10. I'm not seeing the R-word used at all this year
Now why would the Repukes be ashamed of their own party?

All the Dem candidates are using the word "Democrat" very proudly. It's so fun to watch.

15. I find it odd
that after the big names made Oregon out to be a potential swing or weakly leaning state in the presidential, our Republic senator is running to Obama.

Hopefully it will be for naught. All of Smiths adds that I have seen are all about how he is Dem friendly. Its funny how he has so much support just on incumbancy, when so much of the R's hate him(not purist enough for them) and so many of the D's want a second Democratic senator for our blue state.
