Obama Camp Statement on Sen. Gordon Smith’s TV Ad

Obama Camp Statement on Sen. Gordon Smith’s TV Ad

“Barack Obama has a long record of bipartisan accomplishment and we appreciate that it is respected by his Democratic and Republican colleagues in the Senate. But in this race, Oregonians should know that Barack Obama supports Jeff Merkley for Senate. Merkley will help Obama bring about the fundamental change we need in Washington,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Sorry, Gordon, no coattails for you.

4. Gordo has a long history
of mouthing semi-liberal causes during election cycles, and then doing far-conservative things in office. I'm expecting it to catch up with him this time...

Merkley along with him to Capitol Hill?

6. Merkley is polling high
and Gordon Smith, considered by many to be the Repug senate seat most in jeopardy this fall, is going to be falling all over himself to "create" distance between his views and those of BushCo. Oregonians aren't going to let him.

11. That's good to hear! Look for Smith to start making noise about switching
parties the closer we get to election day. Maybe I'll drop Merkley a couple of dollars.

12. It is going to be tougher to get rid of him then most think.
For some reason Oregon has had a traditional soft spot for Republican Senators. Hatfield, Packwood and then Smith.

Smith is slick, he'll get 100% of the Republican vote in the state which is almost as large as the registered Dems. The independents who have been leaning blue over the last few years, giving the Dems a sweep of statewide offices over the decade, unfortunately like Smith.

It would be an early Christmas present to send him packing, but it will be tough to get rid of him even if Obama takes the state by 10 points.

Win win for Obama. Get's a Repub to praise him, then points out that it's the Dem he still supports, winning more points.
