2. It would have been better if Stewart focused more on McC's policies and less on his age
Remember, as Social Security has more and more problems and we are forced to work until we are older and older, someone is going to have to hire us. I just heard that most of us (under 40s) will be working into our 70s. Ageism will make us poor if we don't fight it now.

3. Ahem, We Forget Sometimes That Jon Stewart Is A Comedian....
Though the really sad thing is that Jon Stewart the comedian often has much more insightful and issue specific discussions than members of the mainstream media, who would rather talk about flag pins and such.

4. That's the problem.
And that is why I made the comment that I did.

He is a comedian but he has enough political savvy that he can affect more than just the TV watcher's funny bone.

6. guess what, if Obama wins you really aren't going to want to watch TDS
it's a comedy show and Stewart and company are going to have a hey day with a democratic president as well. Once again it's comedy, not news.

7. exactly.....and the sad part is that lazy comedians take the easy way out,
and that's making fun of his age, instead of, say, his vile temper, or his serial flip flopping, or his uncontrolled lying

he's getting an easy out that way

remember what great fun they had at the expense of Gore's 'trouble with the truth?'

that really hurt him in 2000. the age thing isn't going to hurt him much at all, unless he blows an aneuryism onstage, or something

8. TDS gets far less viewers than network news and in 2000 the audience was way smaller.

9. and......?????
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 12:19 AM by Gabi Hayes
comedians, as in almost all the other comedians who make political references

they ALL made fun of Gore's being a 'liar', except the most liberal

it became part of the culture; it was repeated over and over and over until it became a 'truism'

that's what I was trying to say

the age meme is already a very tiresome cliche, and not worthy of any more jokes, no matter who tells it

aren't you worn out by that trite garbage?

wouldn't you rather hear some jokes about how he called his wife a trollop, or a c-word. you know that's not going to happen, but that's the sort of thing that would take a bit of finesse....a bit of, uh, talent?
