When was the last time Ralph Nader went to the ghettos and the inner cities to talk to young black men about their futures? You are so right about that. I could understand and agree with him if he didn't take tactics that actually advance the very things he's against!! What is his strategy? Whatever it is, IT'S NOT WORKING! Surely he is smart enough to see that he's hurting the causes he claims to champion! The fact that he picks on Democrats 100% more than Republicans is proof enough for me to assume that Ralph is a Republican plant who actually wants less consumer and worker rights. I think it worthwhile to research not just the great divide between the two reformers when they were contemporary but how these two moved away from their initial successful movement once betrayal signaled a need to take an entirely new tack. For MLK, watching the development of Vietnam turn into a soul wrenching bad deal meant he had to oppose the war and give up the alliances that institutionalized his successes. For Ralph, seeing the consumer justice issues become the plaything for Humpty Dumpty meant it was also time to savage a lot of his allies.

The attitudes of the two seem to diverge sharply at this point. Personally, MLK was torn and responding to a higher call, taking on the whole system without benefit of previous establishment political supports. For Nader, it seems coldly personal, plain revenge and about taking heads even if mixed with incisive idealism. In fact, it seems more that getting personally stiffed and sidelined is what made him go political in sort of a blind attack that never bothered to master the art of the political. it seemed to have poisoned his confrontation with the system and made him an ego blind part of the GOP problem.

Comparing and contrasting the persons, the tests, the responses and the attitudes is quite a startling exercise and highlights the ultimate tragedy of Nader assassinating his own image, prolonging and enabling the real enemies and totally at odds with the moral compass. Not tolerating compromise(or the insult of being ignored) by Dems or fellow conservationists he takes revenge by calling the destroyers "better". This twist, this judgmentalism has a black cloud around it. When MLK put his life on the line to take a prophetic stance for the good of all, disabling the system it was a judgment too, but never personal. I think anyone can feel the difference long before they see the profound divide.
