1. One who represents my interests and the interest of most Americans... |

Unfortunately, one isn't running for office right now.

2. So since issues are far more important than electability, why didn't you vote for option 1 or 3? |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 03:00 AM by Levgreee
These are theoretical candidates, I am not stating that it is impossible that a candidate who agrees with you could be highly electable, but for this poll, or "election", there are only these 3 options. Why don't you take part in the vote if you are taking the time to post?
I'll reword the poll to make it's meaning more obvious to the purpose I just described...

4. I didn't vote at all, none of the options apply to me personally... |
|
Let's put it this way, of all the candidates during the primary, I agreed with Kucinich about 60% of the time, and for the rest, well less than 50% of the time. Obama, about 25% of the time. This is my own personal analysis of their issues and policy positions, so it isn't just a few key issues with me, indeed, I frankly have very few points of agreement with any Democratic candidate for federal office.

3. The issues I have are not unreasonable. |
|
I do not demand that we go to Pluto by 2020.
I do not demand that we get rid of the dollar (Tho we need to can the worthless penny)
I do not demand that we feed the world
I do not demand that we end poverty by 2012
etc...
After seeing democratic sell outs I'm moving it to all because simply put. I'm sick and tired of playing a game. We just get ONE president in willing to actually fight for what is right and we would be the leading nation on Earth in all areas. (Well except maybe Football (The REAL football) )

6. As someone not gun ho about the rah, rah bandwagon affect of politics |
|
We are curmudgeons. We'd go with unelectable,( and who makes that determination anyway , suckers and pundits ,we say.) If the policy differences are too great likely we'd not vote or vote for maybe, Nader. So hope Obama does not put us into that predicament. Its up to him, not us. One offensive comment. His Jerusalem comment about Jerusalem always being a Jewish city. Careful. We are listening.

10. Candidate Number 4 trumps all others |
|
That would be someone who fervently stands up for the rights of the electorate and who sticks to his principles to do what is right, not what appears to be politically expedient. Taking a firm stance for the people immediately makes that candidate more electable than anyone else.

I assume this candidate you're alluding to loves kittens and helps old ladies across the street, too.

15. What I hate is the assumption that a candidate will say things that he or she does not believe |
|
It's interesting that you imply a distinction between a candidate's public positions and his or her actual positions.
I will respect and support a candidate who stands up for what he or she believes is right and necessary, even if it is not popular with those who own the corporate media, or with a large section of the population.
A true leader should be ready to LEAD - not just follow the results of the latest opinion poll.
But of course, winning is also important.

16. A candidate should educate the public |
|
I chose three. If a candidate wins handily, it means that candidate hasn't been brave and hasn't made a case for a new way of thinking. If the candidate doesn't win, then the candidate is irrelevant. I want a candidate who on key issues will do all s/he can to educate the public and make the case for a new way of thinking. That said, I never thought Obama was that candidate. He may be the best one with a chance of winning, but that's because he has good campaign skills and an excellent campaign, not because he's brave enough to risk educating the public.
