Novak says, Colin Powell to endorse Obama?

The Obamacons Who Worry McCain

By Robert D. Novak
Thursday, June 26, 2008; Page A19

What is an "Obamacon?" The phrase surfaced in January to describe British conservatives entranced by Barack Obama. On March 13 the American Spectator broadened the term to cover all "conservative supporters" of the Democratic presidential candidate. Their ranks, though growing, feature few famous people. But looming on the horizon are two big potential Obamacons: Colin Powell and Chuck Hagel.

Neither Powell, first-term secretary of state for George W. Bush, nor Hagel, retiring after two terms as a U.S. senator from Nebraska, has endorsed Obama. Hagel probably never will. Powell probably will enter Obama's camp at a time of his own choosing. The best bet is that neither of the two, both of whom supported President Bush in 2000 and 2004, will back John McCain in 2008.

1. I could care less what Novak says
And Colin Powell destroyed his reputation by lying for the regime. Endorsing Obama is not enough to exonerate him for those crimes.

2. Agreed
(Although it probably plays well somewhere and is therefore a "good thing".)

3. I think it helps among the Reagan Democrats

The people who voted for Bush at least once and still like the "Old Guard" republicans of Bush Sr's term. It would help in PA and Ohio.

4. Yeah, but it could be helpful in winning over moderate Republicans to support Obama

instead of McCain. We need all the votes we can get in November. And if we can get some of those from the not-entirely-evil wing of the GOP, that would be helpful.

8. Of course that would be a big deal
We all know that Powell sold his soul to pimp the war. But this wouldn't be what WE think about Powell.
The public and MSM still adore the guy. An endorsement would provide invaluable foreign policy cred for Obama. It might also give a little shove to reluctant independents who are looking for someone to validate a vote for Obama.
