1. Whatever Gallup. They are not tied.
Obama is kicking McCain's ass.

2. If Obama is leading in all the swing states...
...which he seems to be.

If he is tied or nearly tied in a good many Republican states.

As he seems to be.

If he holds commanding leads in Democratic states/

As it seems to be.

If other polls have him between 11% to 15% ahead.

As it seems to be.

How can they be tied?

3. Not leading in all the swing states, and most of his leads are not commanding
Definitely behind in Nevada and North Carolina. Virginia, Missouri and Ohio are dead heats, and I need to see more polling in Michigan and Colorado to have a real idea. Obama may only be slightly ahead in MI and CO. So McLame is definitely within striking distance in those two states.

Obama's in a commanding lead right now in Iowa, New Mexico, New Hampshire and Wisconsin, but not in the others.

4. Big Media Will Influence, If Not Control, The Election Results
I have had this debate with folks who claim that Big Media's influence has waned due to the power of the internet. However, a lot of folks do not have the internet access that the folks on this board enjoy. They depend on TV for their news, and the MSM is happy to tell people what to think.

Due to Obama's opposition to media consolidation, the MSM will keep the pressure on Obama. They smeared Kerry in 2004. They smeared Bill Clinton with "Path to 9/11" in 2006. They will smear Obama 24/7 in this election. Sadly, people will believe it the same way they believed it was proper to invade Iraq.

So, don't get lulled into inaction with Big Media reports about Obama's fundraising prowness. Big Media is giving McCain a free pass. Democrats will need to work twice as hard, and raise twice as much money to regain control of the White House.

This election represents the last best chance for grass roots to have any influence, before any vestige of diversity in the media is complete washed away in a rising flood of media consolidations.

5. National polls don't mean a thing.
I prefer watching individual state polls.
