Arizona Poll: McCain: 38% Obama: 28% Undecided: 34%
TEMPE, Ariz. - Putting Sen. Hillary Clinton on the ticket as his vice-presidential running mate could cost Sen. Barack Obama about 5 percentage points in Arizona, according to a new statewide Cronkite/Eight Poll conducted among registered voters June 20-21, 2008. When asked whether they would vote for Sen. John McCain or Obama, 38 percent said they would vote for McCain and 28 percent said they would vote for Obama 34 percent were undecided. When asked whether they would vote for McCain or an Obama/Clinton ticket, 47 percent said they would support McCain and 32 percent said they would choose the Obama/Clinton ticket 21 percent were undecided.

According to poll director Dr. Bruce Merrill, “Sen. McCain probably leads in Arizona by about 10 percentage points and will be hard to beat in his home state. He divides the independent vote in Arizona with Obama but appears to be attracting conservative Democrats to his campaign. There is an unusually high undecided vote but that is probably due to the fact that Democrats are still trying to sort out how they feel about the intense primary battle between Obama and Clinton. The poll also found that as expected, younger voters are voting heavily for Obama, while older voters strongly prefer McCain. No gender gap was found in Arizona, with women about evenly divided between the two presidential candidates.”

The Cronkite/Eight poll also found that most voters blame the legislature for the current impasse over the state budget. More than one-half of those interviewed (52 percent) said that the Legislature was to blame for the impasse, 19 percent said it was the governor’s fault, 13 percent said

6. Lots of new Zonies, they tend to NOT be Republicans; the demographics have changed
incredibly since the late '80s.

Even if Obama doesn't take the EV here, his coattails could yield some wonderful things.

Send us vibes, prayers, spells, what have you; we need all the help we can get with local races, too!

12. Yer either with us, or yer agin' us, eh Georgie?
Save your goosestepping for another site. Here we allow dissent and many of us actually understand the concept of democracy. Maybe you can stop genuflecting long enough to realize that.

8. Isn't 350 a very small sample?
Then again, the numbers here don't look particularly impressive for McCain, being that it's his home state.

Does that mean the state is or will be competitive? Not in this cycle, but it will be a battleground for future elections. I'm unfamiliar with House races in the state, but I'm sure there are some competitive races.

13. only 38% support means Obama has lots of room to grow, but Gramps, don't.

The people in his home state know him pretty well, so, he's not likely to increase that lead. But when Barack starts airing his dulcet tones and displaying his masculine confidence, there's plenty of room for him to increase.

I find it amusing that the candidate who can't seem to find his opinion on anything, has constituants who can't seem to find their opinion of him! They're as wishy washy as he is!

16. Arizona
The fact he Is only 10 points ahead of Obama In his home state suggests Mccain Is weak.Obama has
huge leads In Illinois and Hawaii(where he was born and was largely raised In) now I am not suggesting Mccain will lose Arizona I just think It says something that his lead in his state Isn't
as big as It should be.
