Am I the only one concerned about John McCain's LACK OF stance on abortion?
Am I the only that worries that he has NO principles guiding him on the likes of abortion; that he's changed his stance on that issue more often by far than say, a certain Democratic leader respected by most DUers?

In the '80s McCain was "hands off" /Goldwateresque (who did favor choice, btw)); in the '90s and '00s he follows the prevailing Republican wind on it.

That while on either side of the fence you are on, he's pandered to BOTH sides, so could appoint a SCOTUS judge like Clarence Thomas, who insisted he had no personal opinion on the matter (Unlike virtually every other American over the age of 13)?

That he will bow to the Heritage Foundations and the James Dobsons to keep his job, even if he really thinks choice is a woman's right? That really, really concerns me and I think everyone should be aware that that is how he's operated for 30 years.

I'm very, gravely concerned about John McCain's lack of leadersip and flip-flopping on abortion, I know I'm not alone. Are you concerned, too?

1. I'm with you.
I like to know what I'm fighting against. If (knock wood) he's elected and had no clear stance previously, who's to say he won't be swayed by the religious right and push to overturn Roe v Wade.

2. He has said repeatedly that Roe V Wade should be overturned
and the matter left up to the states.

From his website:

"John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench.

Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat."

4. This decade--but in the '80s, needing Goldwater's endorsement, he
was very wishy-washy on the issue. Goldwater was very pro-choice; his family helped found Planned Parenthood here.

When Reagan came along, McCain changed his stance. Once Goldwater died, he completely abandoned it.

9. Republicans never run to the right of their actual positions.
They always run as more moderate versions of themselves and then, when elected, get all Mussolini on our ass. If he says he'll appoint anti-choice judges, that's what he'll do.

8. He also said he'd provide his daughter with an abortion.
If she wanted one.

5. I put my worries into working for Obama .
If Mc* isn't president we don't need to worry. If he is President we have way bigger problems that that. We will have to keep our legs closed for four years that should get some legislative actions. peace, Kim

6. McCain is quite clearly against abortion.
Has supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade and has promised to appoint judges that would attempt just that.

11. Yes, he's a waffler on abortion alright, but all that really matters is what
type of justices he'd appoint to the USSC, and today he's a Scalia/Thomas/Roberts/Alito kind of guy. That's all I need to know. :scared:

12. It's a good sign for us...
that he is afraid to talk about it. That means he doesn't agree with the powerful, anti-freedom people in the Republican party.

14. That's because the MSM neglects to ask him any questions about his
stance on abortion. If someone would bring up his new position, which includes allowing a woman - or girl - to die rather than allow an abortion, it would be all over.

16. AFAIC
Anything short of a definitive statement in support of a woman's right to make her own private medical choices means the person is anti-choice.

They can hedge all they like, they can try to wink and nod about not really doing anything too terrible, but why should I trust that?
