Schwarzenegger: McCain "Blowing Smoke" On Offshore Drilling
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 04:12 PM by ErinBerin84
Heh, this would be a good response to McCain's stupid "Dr No!" ad. Don't get me wrong, Arnold is doofy as hell, but at least he is right on this one. He's going to be on Meet the Press this Sunday, maybe he will talk about what a stupid idea this is a bit more. I don't get why McCain included "Obama says offshore drilling won't bring down gas prices!" in that dumb ad , wasn't McCain forced to admit to as much the other day?

In a speech on climate change in Florida, the California governor diverged from his prepared remarks to blast supporters of offshore drilling.

"America is so addicted to oil that it will take years to ween ourselves from it. To look for new ways to feed our addiction is not the answer. Anyone who tells you this would bring down gas prices anytime soon is blowing smoke"

John McCain, who Schwarzenegger endorsed in January, recently became one of those people. He explained his sudden support for offshore drilling by arguing that it would be ""very helpful in the short term resolving our energy crisis." The Huffington Post couldn't find an expert who thought McCain's plan would actually provide short-term relif.

1. People need to come to the conclusion that oil will run out
only then will they act accordingly.

3. Arnold's got it right on energy and most environmental issues.
I voted for him. I scarcely consider him a Republican, though that's his declared party.

His opponent was what I'd call a "bad democrat", shady, too wrapped up in the system, and not particularly honest, IMHO.

In any case, when it comes to climate change I become "party-blind" because it's the environment and energy are issues that matter too much to me to be strictly party-loyal.

5. I agree. It's hard not to like him.
He is so much more Democratic than Republican on many social issues. He often takes stands in direct opposition to the party platform.

9. does the fact he keeps endorsing people who don't hold the
same ideals as him help you not like him. The guy twice told me how great Bush would be for California. Once again here he is supporting some one completely 180 degrees from Arnold. I'd like Arnold if he had the guts to stop supporting people that don't support him. What an embarrassment to show up at an event at a key offshore drilling spot and pretend the guy you are supporting doesn't have the exact opposite view than you. Even when energy policy was the key issue the event addressed. Arnold has no guts... again.

11. He is not my ideal and I wish we were presented with better options.
But, as Republicans go, he is better than many. I am sometimes puzzled by his party affiliation and wonder how much his wife influences him.

I did not mean my statement to be one of strong support.

6. When the Gropenator comes to mind
I immediately recall how he F**KED the state of CA *BIGTIME* when he gave ENRON the $9 Billion write-off making taxpayers like yourself pick up the tab. All that after being in on the Cheney secret energy policy meetings.

So how you folks can take a slap in the face like that, and then vote him in AGAIN is beyond me.

7. Conjecture? Enron and blackouts occurred before Arnold took office in 2003.
The details of his having met with Ken Lay and others shortly before the recall do not constitute his having intervened.

If there is some other evidence that he used his power in office to forgive that debt, I'd love to see it.

And I'm not suggesting it's not there, I just haven't seen it.

10. Let's not forget he ran on fixing the budget problems of Davis
The state is now even worse off budget wise. Great job Arnold. I might given him a break and say it's Bushes economy to blame, but he supported Bush... TWICE.

4. What can I say
He's right on this.

McCain is just full of shit. Yeah, as though by drilling offshore, the next day we will see lower prices. I doubt you'd see any effect for months, if not years to get the oil out. And even when that were to happen, you'd likely see such a negligible decrease in prices that it likely wouldn't keep up with inflation.

And that's not calculating the irreversible environmental costs and the risks associated with it.

Offshore drilling makes no sense whatsoever. I'm glad Obama's not falling for this one. And credit to Arnold for paying attention to the constituents on this. The people of California are smart. I guess the question is, are Floridians idiots?
