Lieberman Plays The Wright Card
By Greg Sargent - June 26, 2008, 5:38PM

We already knew that McCain supporter Joe Lieberman had adopted a role as a leading critic of Obama on foreign policy. But now, judging from some quotes buried in this new ABC News interview with the self-described Independent Democrat, it looks as if Lieberman has expanded his repertoire to include attacks on Obama over Reverend Wright, too:

"In fairness we don't know if Rev. Wright said these inflammatory, anti-American, racial comments every Sunday, but I would not continue to go to a synagogue where that kind of rhetoric was spoken," Lieberman said, adding, "I think it did raise questions in people's minds about why did he stay in the church that long," but he said he would "take (Obama) at his word" and move on."

Hmmm. Is Lieberman taking Obama "at his word" and moving on? Or is he saying that Wright should "raise questions" about why Obama stayed in the church?

Lieberman defenders like to say that his criticism of fellow Dems are consigned to their foreign policy views, but he now appears to view racially-tinged criticism of their pastors as fair game, too.

3. Liebermann is a sell out and he has no imagination. He's lazy. He can only re-hash
someone else's dead taling point.

Apparently, there's no news old enough to be old news to Liebermann.

7. You are aware that Lieberman was elected by Republicans, are you not?
Of course the CT republicans are proud of what they did. The democrats who voted for Lieberman are not proud... they are more regretful, I am sure.

10. I know..I know... But has the CT legislature CHANGED the rules yet?
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 05:14 PM by SoCalDem
Someone who is DEFEATED in one party in the primary, should NOT be allowed to run under another banner in the same election cycle.... That's a rule that CT could do soomething about enacting..

12. Even if the rule were changed, it would not remove Leiberman.
I'm sure that Ned Lamont and his supporters have thoroughly investigated the angle you refer to, if it actually exists.

Leiberman will become a nonentity, politically, if we can elect Obama and a bunch of new Dem Senators. And I am certain he will never win another statewide office in Connecticut, which is one reason he desperately wants to get McCain elected.

15. Interesting.....
Looking at the exit polls, 70% of Republicans voted for Lieberman. Only 33% of Democrats did. 54% of Independents voted for Lieberman as well.

9. Was there another Lieberman that existed when Kerry ran? Are there two of them? One evil?
The other good?

11. Nope... that was the Lieberman that Gore thought would
bring forth the Florida Jewish vote... The only thing Gore forgot is that anti-Semitism is still bubbling under the surface in many "red states"...and of course by the time Kerry ran 4 years later, Joementum was 2 years from having to run for re-election himself, so he was still talking-the-talk a little.. Once he was re-upped as Joe Lieberman (A-CT), he was showing his true self.....safe for 6 years..and probably will retire instead of having to face voters again..

13. Big deal. He was asked a question and gave a reasonable answer.
I've been opposed to Joe Lieberman since 1988, but I'm not offended by the quote above.

14. Is Senator Obama going to have to pay Senator Lieberman another visit
on the Senate floor?

Because if Joe keeps that up he is cruisin' for a bruisin'.
