Arizona State University Poll McCain 38% Obama 28% Undecided 34%
Strange polling for McCain's home state - then again he only got 50% in the primary there.

Also curious is the fact that Obama almost outraised McCain in Arizona last month - despite the fact that Bush went there for a major fund raising event.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0508/McCain_Bush_to_appear_together_in_Phoenix_for_fundraiser.html

President George W. Bush will join John McCain for a fundraiser in the Arizona senator's hometown later this month, McCain's campaign confirms.

The reception, to be held in Phoenix on May 27, will mark the first time the two have appeared together at a campaign event this year and the first time Bush has lent his fundraising skills to McCain.

It will be a two-tiered event with an early high-dollar reception followed by a general reception.

McCain 208,972.96

Obama 191,663.87

3. But it is rather odd to have a large undecided in your home state
what do they know that makes them so undecided and rather unattached to their own Senator?

7. As a LONGTIME Arizonan, I think I can tell you. It's the enormous population boom we
had in the '90s through just recently.

McCain's an "old boy network" guy who rarely had to run against much of a challenger here. But with people migrating from all over--and Mccain's tenuous immgration positions, the imdependents and middle are not likely to vote for him for presidents, even if they would for Senator.

Add to that our ethnic diverstiy and more, younger voters, and McCain is going to have a time of it. I'm fairly certain he'll win--but there will be a LOT of votes AGAINST him here, even if they really aren't for Obama.

My two cents, but I've been an AZ politcal wonk before I knew there was aname for it.

is going to be a HUGE help!!!

8. It's pretty typical here this early in the game, really.
We have more Independent registrations now than for either party--it'a just one of our quirks.

9. I don't get it either.
Undecided makes more sense during the primaries, when one is choosing between candidates with similar positions. But Obama and McCain are hardly twins. It's like choosing between a Hershey bar and a dog turd.

10. Home state advantage???
38 percent in his home state?!

Arizona does not love McCain any more -- the Repugs hate him for his immigration stance and for going against Bush on anything. Unfortunately, they're not feeling the Obama love either. That said, this polls seems pretty wacky to me. 38 percent for a home Senator is a bit obscene (I love it!). My entire family -- with the exception of my husband and his side of the family -- are Republicans who would, literally, vote for Frankenstein if he was the Republican candidate. So I take an extra measure of pleasure in this poll.
