Obama winning over former Clinton supporters

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama has won over more than half of Hillary Rodham Clinton's former supporters, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo! News poll that finds party loyalty trumping hard feelings less than three weeks after their bruising Democratic presidential contest ended.

(snip)

The poll found 53 percent of the Democrats who favored Clinton for the nomination two months ago now back Obama for president. That's an improvement from April, when only 40 percent of Clinton supporters said they would back Obama over McCain.

(snip)

The poll responses also show Obama has more work to do to quell fears among voters like Kirstie Hartle of Rome, N.Y., a registered Democrat who has never supported a Republican presidential candidate. With Clinton out of the race, Hartle said, "I'm Republican all the way now."

She said she doesn't like Obama's name and thinks he has a questionable background. She also said she thought Obama was deceitful when he broke from his church after it hurt his campaign, and she doesn't trust him to handle the Iraq war.

"It sounds to me like a Middle Eastern type of name and whether or not he's born here in the United States, he doesn't seem like, to me, somebody who is trustworthy," Hartle said in a telephone interview. "You can't trust anybody these days, so who's to say he's not a terrorist and we just don't realize it yet?"

(snip)

Personally, I'm glad she's not a Democrat anymore.

How do we know he's not a terrorist? People really have no problem showing how dumb they are.

3. Two words: Nedra Pickler

She has a history of writing trash about Obama. It's as if she needed to throw one statistically insignificant anecdote to taint an otherwise positive story?

12. Thanks for noting that
We could probably use a master list of unethical and/or dishonest media types who trash Dems (that would include the likes of Peckler, Adama Nagourney, and Ronald Brownstein- to name but a few of the worst repeat offenders).

13. Yes, Pickler has a long history of bias against Dems. Even married to Faux News engineer.

From Wikipedia, but if you don't like Wikipedia, there are plenty of other sources. She's a Bushie:

Pickler was promoted to cover national political issues for the AP in December 2002, and was the lead reporter covering Democrats in the 2004 United States Presidential Election. In her coverage of the 2004 presidential race, Pickler drew criticism for her treatment of Democratic candidates, including Howard Dean and John Kerry.. . .

. . . In covering the 2008 election, Pickler again came under scrutiny for her coverage of the Democratic candidates, particularly Barack Obama. A March 27, 2007 article written by Pickler entitled "Is Obama All Style and Little Substance?" was criticized for its false claim that Obama had "delivered no policy speeches and provided few details about how he would lead the country" in his campaign up to that point.<9> The progressive media watchdog group Media Matters for America countered by pointing out that Obama had given numerous policy speeches on Iraq<10>, Israel<11>, health care<12>, and other topics.<13> In February 2008, Pickler again came under criticism after she wrote an article in which she detailed Republican charges that questioned Obama's patriotism. Her main source was Roger Stone, a Republican consultant already notorious in the 2008 election for founding a non-profit organization named CUNT (Citizens United Not Timid) in order to "educate the American people about what Hillary Clinton really is."<14>. The article drew approximately 15,000 letters of complaint<15> directed to the AP and media outlets carrying Pickler's article in a matter of days.

Her reporting was largely responsible for feeding the controversy surrounding Obama advisor Austan Goolsbee's meeting with the Canadian consulate <16>, as she broke the story on a memo suggesting that Goolsbee had reassured the Canadian government that Barack Obama's stance on NAFTA was "more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans". . .

. . . Pickler married Eric Conner, who works for Fox News, on November 24, 2007. <20> She first met him in 2006 while on a trip to Mexico covering President George W. Bush.<2>

4. Who's to say
Kirstie's not a terrorist and she just doesn't know it yet?

Somehow I doubt Kirstie is up on McCain's positions on anything. Fortunately NY will go Blue without her help.

7. the depressing thing is...
even if Obama was indeed an evil super terrorist with a nefarious plan to bring down America he'd probably still be a better president than John McCain.

Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 05:50 PM by SoCalDem
The only other Kirstie I know of was very fat and even had a tv show about how fat she was, so ALL Kirsties must be really fat too...

That logic makes as much sense as NY Kirstie's..

6. How do I know Kirstie Hartle isn't a terrorist?
I mean, you can't trust anybody these days, so who's to say she's not a terrorist and we just don't realize it yet? Besides, I don't like her name. I've always found Kirstie Alley annoying, and since they share the same name, Kirstie Hartle must be the same type of person as Kirstie Alley. In addition, what do we really know about Ms. Hartle's background?

I'm sure she'll fit in real well with the Republicans.

They can take their DINO butts over to the Repigs where they belong.

Who's to say she's not a terrorist and we just don't realize it yet?

After all, she may be sending messages to her terror cell allies through her Betty Boop page.
