2. That could be interesting...there are a lot of moderate Republicans
that love Powell.

14. You are thinking strategically, like I am.....
This is the General election, and we certainly don't want to turn our nose up at a Colin Powell endorsement of our Democratic Nominee...especially since McCain is trying to woo the Indies. A Powell endorsement of Obama hurts McCain. That's what we want.

23. Agreed, every ex-general who endorses for Obama helps.
Powell is not loathed as much by all those millions of "Indies" who were for the war before they were against it. Many feel he was bamboozled like they were.

Hell, if I can forgive John Edwards, I can forgive Colin Powell.

3. He's been hinting to that possibility for months now
I don't like Powell but I do love how many ex-Bushies are turning on their failed administration.

17. Exactly, blogslut..
The big picture here says this won't be the only former bush admin official who comes out for Obama.

6. McCain can't get solid support from the far right, or the moderates
methinks he is pandering his bad old self right out of this election.

7. Malloy just said that Novacula is running with it
Mike wants him to tell Powell to take a hike. Then he turned it into a "Obama's a Repuke", yada, yada

13. We already have it.
Powell will work for those moderate Repukes.

I for one will take them....cause we want to win in November. If they are voting for Obama, means they won't be voting for McCain. Sounds like a plan....especially in those purple states.

15. Yeah I know we have it but Carter was snubbed while Powell will
be embraced. The guy who advocates for peace is a liability while the dude who lied in front of the entire world to sell an illegal war will be embraced. This sounds like some shit out of Orwell's 1984.

16. It will be alright soon.....
I can feel it in my bones.

Plus Jimmy Carter didn't seem to have a problem with Obama. In fact, I daresay, he knows what it means to lose, and he knows that this country can't afford it....and as you know, he would be correct once more.

19. I'm still hopeful....
But Barack has thrown quite a few people under his bus, I understand what he got to do but it's starting to raise eyebrows in certain segments of his base. I do feel he will do the right thing once in office because I beleive Michelle will keep him grounded.

18. Powell's endorsement may not be significant for the liberals but it carries weight with centrists
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 09:55 PM by thewiseguy
And Carter's endorsement was rather expected. Who else was he going to endorse?

20. Carter wasn't invited to a rally why? Gore, Edwards, Clinton
endorsements were high profile with rallies. IMO I don't think Powell should get more attention than Carter.

21. Barely anyone remembers Carter and..
The RW media would have a field day comparing Obama's presidency to Carter's. He's controlling his message and leaving little for the RW to grab onto. Remember all those images that plagued Kerry's campaign? Not happening this time.

22. Colin Powell's ticket to hell is already punched.
But his endorsement will still be great for Obama. This could sway a lot of right-leaning independents and moderate Republicans.
