New Poll: McCain leads by only 6-points in Mississippi!!
Another indication that Obama is competitive in the deep south:

The topline numbers in the race between John McCain and Barack Obama in Mississippi remain unchanged over the past month. The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state since Hillary Clinton’s exit from the race finds McCain leading Obama 50% to 44%, just as he did in May.

While McCain has a solid 57% to 38% lead among men, Obama leads 49% to 44% among women. Obama also dominates among the youngest set of voters (age 18-29), 75% to 22%. McCain holds the advantage in voters of all other age groups

1. Do you think that Hillary as VP would help in the South?
especially since I think that she may attract a higher percent of white women (and some men) and Arkansas suddenly becomes very competitive for Obama... or too much baggage in the Clinton brand.

4. from the article
A third (34%) of Mississippi voters think Hillary Clinton should become Barack Obama’s running mate, while 46% disagree. Voters in Mississippi are slightly more in favor of an Obama-Clinton ticket than voters nationwide

2. I remember when he won Mississippi
and all of the pundits were tsk tsking the "racial division" of the voting, as if that were Obama's fault. I remember that episode of the Daily Show with the montage of the pundits from all of the networks saying that the win didn't really count, and there were "STRONG racial divisions......what are we to make of this?" I remember Andrea Mitchell saying "There are several Southern states that the Obama team has been trying to say will be in play this November if he were the nominee...given the racial divisions of the voting toight, the Obama campaign will NOT be saying that anymore..."

5. I attribute this to McAncient puffing out his chest about earmarks.
Mississippi would starve in the dark without Federal money.

I'm getting the feeling some states might surprise us come November.

7. Love it!! McCain will be stretched thin with money and time if these state polls can remain tight.

8. Obama is really smart .. make McCain defend and partition his finances across 18 Bush states
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 01:17 PM by cbc5g
He won't be able to make a concentrated effort on a couple swing states. Obama has got him where he wants him. If McCain uses his finances on a couple swing states like last time, he risks losing the south and midwest.
