I hear a lot of talk about HRC's campaign debt being paid off, but what are the current numbers? |
|
I'd like to know the following numbers: Total debt, debt minus the personal loans that Clinton says she has no intention of recovering, amount of money raised toward paying the debt by Clinton since leaving the race.

A little over $10 million in money owed to vendors. Around $12 million Hillary loaned her campaign from personal funds.
I don't think that Hillary has disclosed her fundraising efforts, but I think I remember hearing that her internet fundraising had drastically slowed down (surprise). An interesting tidbit of info is that she was charging her campaign a very small percentage of interest on her personal loans. I heard someone on MSNBC say that she was most likely laying the groundwork to write off the personal loans on her taxes. Only a lawyer would have the foresight to do that.
It looks like Hillary will eat the $12 million she loaned to her campaign and just try to raise as much as possible to pay her vendors.

2. I've heard much the same. She will take the hit for her personal |
|
loans but is hoping to get enough donations to pay off the other $10 mill.

4. but the money to vendors can come in after the election, right? |
|
I thought only personal money had a deadline of having to be in before the convention.

I'm pretty sure that it can be recovered later. Makes it sound kind of silly for people to push hard on donating to Hillary ASAP.

8. Yeah. The only ASAP thing would be recovering personal money. |
|
And I have a feeling her public statement about not trying to get that might indicate that she knows she isn't about to get a whole bunch of money any time soon.

3. IIRC the personal loan stuff has to be recovered before the convention or it's gone. |
|
I think her public statements claiming that she won't seek that money is probably a very positive way to acknowledge that she won't get enough donations to make that happen.

5. I heard it was illegal to not charge interest on that loan |
|
I can't remember the specifices, but it wasn't a legal option for her to "loan" her campaign money without charging her campaign interest on that loan. The interest is as low as she could set it.

9. Do vendors have any recourse, ie suits against the campaign or candidate? |
|
I'm an engineer, not a lawyer.
If a printer or caterer has an unpaid bill, can they sue the candidate or the campaign with any chance of winning that suit or are they just going to have to eat it?

11. There must be some precedent, unless this is the first time this has happened. |
|
My guess is that the the law varies from state to state.....
If 10 million dollars is ultimately eaten then I'm going to have to become angry. It's really wrong.
I wonder if the candidate thought that these vendors were taking their chances or should have been willing to possibly eat it, as good democrats, or some irrational thinking like that.

I know you are talking about money owed them, and I am teasing....but I did laugh out loud - it's a Saturday-morning mood.....no offense.
Edited to correct typing - which is also a Saturday-morning thing.....lol

12. Hillary should list her debts on her website and allow people to |
|
donate to pay off the specific debt.
I'm sure the more deserving little guys will be made whole pretty quick.
And we can let Mark Penn stew.

16. I agree. How about a "donate to pay vendors" link on barackobama.com, too? |
|
Either way, these are regular working business people who need to be paid, not volunteers.
Of course, if you'll take a poor kid's bicycle and video games, what's to stop you from expecting that level of support from everyone.
Earth to Hillary, you owe us money.
