McCain can't remember the last time he pumped gas and how much it cost
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 09:09 PM by ProSense

McCain: I ‘Don’t See How It Matters’ That I Don’t Know The Price Of Gas

In a telephone interview with the Orange County Register earlier this week, John McCain acknowledged he was unaware of the price of gas. The OC Register’s Martin Wicksol reports:

WICKSOL: When was the last time you pumped your own gas and how much did it cost?

MCCAIN: Oh, I don’t remember. Now there’s Secret Service protection. But I’ve done it for many, many years. I don’t recall and frankly, I don’t see how it matters.

I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of town hall meetings, many as short a time ago as yesterday. I communicate with the people and they communicate with me very effectively.

McCain’s cluelessness about gas prices is compounded by the fact that he is clueless about what to do about it. He is promoting a gas tax holiday for drivers because he claims to understand “Americans are hurting.” It will provide “a little psychological boost,” McCain said of his plan.

1. Now, that's sad.
Time for more letters!

I'm tired or writing, but I'll be damned if he gets away with the shit that would have been week long fodder on Obama.

Thanks for the information!

:hi:

2. Completely out-of-touch...
Let's hope our man attacks him on this and shouts it from the mountain tops. This is indicative of the worst of old-Washington. McCain has no idea what the common folk are going through...

6. Never
He probably never pumped his own gas. Self Service stations weren't big till the mid-80s and by than he was a Senator who had aides doing it for him...and the millionaire wife.

7. In all faiarness, I doubt Barack has pumped his own gas in a very long
time either! When you are a senator or any high official, you just dont do that kind of stuff. I don't hold it againast either of them.

9. How could either one not know? Don't they watch news or read papers?
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 09:30 PM by Lastlaughin08
Christ, they don't live in bubbles all of of the time, especially when it's in the headlines every day. You don't have to pump your own gas to know what it costs.

If the they don't have some idea, they shouldn't be running for anything, except the exits.

14. I didn't say they didn;t know the cost! I agree both should know that.
I was talking about neither pumping their own gas.

15. Don't some states prohibit self-serve gas stations?
Most drivers still know what the stuff costs, no matter who pumps it.

12. Maybe not but I will bet he knows it is around $4 a gallon. How can McCain propose gas tax holidays
and not know the price of a gallon of gas? That is just wrong, it seems to me.

17. The point is not whether or not the candidate still pumps his own gas.
The point is that McCain said he doesn't see why it matters whether he pumps the gas or knows the price.

25. Maybe not, but he knows what the price of gas is because he has mentioned it several times.
In his speeches.

Maybe you haven't been listening to him, but he has mentioned the high price of gas in a lot of the speeches he gave just this last month.

27. I'm not sure that him pumping his own gas is the point
It's him being out of touch with what Americans are having to pay for a gallon of gas. To me, that's probably one of the most important things for him to know right now, along with what this stupid war is costing us in lives and money.

13. Last time I noticed, gas stations advertised their prices on signs
It does not matter to ME who pumped their own gas, but it DOES bother me that McCain doesn't even have a clue as to the price of a gallon of gas.
It just shows he does not care.
He doesn't need to bother because it does not affect him, and he surely doesn't care what Americans are paying.

22. The price of gas has "mattered" to the average american since
the mid-late 70's and the "oil crisis" - which pretty much meant no more cheap gas to go wherever one wanted, no matter how much they made. No more cheap summer driving/camp out vacations for the average working class - just above minimum wage family.

Since 2001, the price of gas has mattered when it came to the price of food and other necessities that families had to go out and purchase.

Of course, it "doesn't matter" to someone who doesn't have to work for a living and doesn't worry if there's enough in the bank account to purchase or do whatever he or she wants - even if it is flying around in the little woman's corporate jet several times a month.

24. I'd like to personally invite Mr. Mccain........
to come to N.C. and pump a tank of gas into my little pt cruiser. I'll even let him pay for it then lend him a pencil and paper so he can figure it out.

Bush didn't know what the price per gallon was either, if I remember correctly :S

Selfish morons.
