1. Oh dayum Frenchie....
The pictures with the caskets and wrapped bodies really got to me. My brother just got back from Iraq. He also did a year in Afghanistan. I don't want him to have to go back again but I am so afraid he will. I don't know what to think but you are so right. :scared: :scared:

6. The picture of the Iraqi dead was particularly moving...
The one enshrouded body that looks shorter than the others, I though might be a child, which is already awful.

But it appears to be an adult in a fetal position and in rigor mortis.

It all just reminds me of the fact that these citizens were invaded, they did not ask for this.

The deaths of these Iraqis is even more tragic, even more tragic than all the troop casualties because they truly had no choice.

It's a crime against humanity.

you seemed to be reading my mind. I have been really getting angry that a lot of people are beginning to not look at this thing for what it is,they keep focusing on one issue or bringing up so many as though he has already won.

They are helping McCain, although we know there are plenty of republiCONS on DU stirring up the pot. No matter what,I am and will do my part...That is helping Obama win.

28. Unfortunately they may be different prizes.
You have been obsessed with getting Obama elected regardless of his stances on issues.

I am more interested in forwarding a progressive agenda.

Now that Obama is the candidate and he is diving for the GOP-esque center, my "prize" is to pull him back to being the progressive leader I was promised. Too many here are willing to allow him to become McCain-esqu in moderate positions where I am more prone to demanding liberal courage from the Democratic candidate.

32. How are you going to forward a progressive agenda if Obama loses?
Are you going to do it with McCain in the White House, particularly when he adds the fifth facist to the Supreme Court? That will set us back at least 50 years, if not more.

FC is being smart, focused, and pragmatic. If you'd rather die on your sword of principal that's your business, but some of us are trying to make a better world for our children to inherit.

34. That's right. I've been obsessed about getting a Democratic President into the WH
since 2000.

You are damn straight on that.

Whatever you are interested in, this progressive agenda you speak of...well, you've had 8 years without a Democratic President in office.
So how did that work out for you and your progressive agenda that you have championed....any word yet?

35. We talk about one issue voters as if they are only republicans.
But anyone that loses sight of the big picture and instead focuses on only one interest point and is destructive in their attitude is a one issue voter. It makes no difference if that issue is their candidate, FISA or some other point of criticism that they have chosen to attack Barack on. And even if they change after a few months and come back to the fold, there may be too much damage done by then.

Right now if I feel well enough to come on here for a few minutes, I look for you Frenchie Cat and a few others to scan their threads. I just don't have time, or strength, for all this negative attitude that I tend to find here these days. One of the things I like about Obama is his positive attitude. He admits things will be hard, but encourages us that we can do it if we are willing to work hard for it. From the bottom up, he says, that is how we must make the change. Well, I am in the bottom and I refuse to cause a gap in our armor that will cause us to lose our fight against those who would destroy the U.S. for their own profit.

I always count on your posts to give me courage. As for my staying strong, my sister says I am too stubborn to ever give in to illness or anything else, so we will see.

My GP picks the worse possible time to take a vacation and I will be telling her this when I see her. Hopefully that will be within a few days and she can help set me straight.

Yes, the picture is me at around eight and in the third grade. My latest round of illness has made me sentimental I'm afraid. My daughter will kill me when she realizes what I did. :D

My next goal is to live long enough to see this country began to turn itself around and find its way again. I want to see this awful war end and those that profited from it brought to justice.

Yes, I want it as badly as you do, and I wish others would understand how much this means to us all. It is indeed a mighty big prize, and one we can not afford to throw away. We may never get another chance.

45. That is why none of us can afford to be selfish on this matter.......
8 years is a long time in anyone's book; but certainly longer in some than in others. We all need to be sensitive to this, that for some, this election is truly a matter of life or death or close thereto. We have to pull together and get this done; because nothing else, and I mean nothing else will do.

48. That document in where it is said that we all are created equal, is imperfect now,
and it was imperfect at the time that it was written.....as we are still fighting for equality today in the 21st century.

So, no, the Constitution, with all of its wonderfulness and admitted imperfections is not so much the prize, but merely the map to how we find our way to the prize.

Accordingly, the prize is gotten through democratically held elections......

In otherwords, the process of elections is seen as the path to the prize.

and I will reiterate, it is the photos in the OP after the prize that are priceless; not so much the piece of paper, that however well meaning, does not replace those lives or this earth.

The Map is key, but it is not the prize.

Get it?

50. The prize(s) are worthless when the person to make those
decisions is not trustworthy or raises doubt about the integrity used to make the tough decisions. So far, I've been underwhelmed by the integrity of my US Senator who once promised to represent my state of IL for a full term before seeking the presidency. Or promised to take public financing since it was essential to re-establishing trust in our elections. Or promised to vote against the FISA telecom immunity. I'd love to keep my eyes on the prize(s) if I was sure of the integrity of the person making those decisions.

56. Well you can join McCain, who also questions Obama's integrity.
You see, it doesn't seem to take much to question someone else's integrity.......

You bringing up the fact that Obama even ran, and piling on with what I consider a red Herring in reference to Public financing (he is financed by the public...doh), makes me question your integrity.
See, it's easy. Perhaps too easy. But you do have that right if it makes you feel better.

How about that?

57. Don't try to demean intelligent points with nonsense. I am not running
for the most important position in America, nor am I pointing out untruths. Obama said these things, and has gone back on those promises. As for Public financing, that is a system funded through the Federal Election Commission, not PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL donors like mom and pop and Lobbyists....so no, it is not accurate to say they are public. I wonder what else he will sellout on in the future when it suits him? As for joining McCain, don't be stupid. I'm going to vote democratic, but that doesn't mean our candidate will get a free pass on his words or actions. That's what makes us better than Republicans...they are shallow sycophants who love the leader above all else. We democrats should have integrity and try to keep our politicians honest.
