“It’s Over, Lady!”
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 10:38 PM by kevinmc
I am laughing reading this .... Carmella Lewis sounds like a clown.

MAUREEN DOWD

Unity was spared the banality of unanimity.

Carmella Lewis, with her Hillary T-shirt and Hillary placard, came all the way from Denver to make sure there would be plenty of ambiguity, duality and ferocity in Unity. Just as Hillary was testing out the unfamiliar familiarity “Barack and me” Friday and talking about “his grace and his grit,” Carmella began loudly booing and waving her sign. “We want Hillary!” screamed the 57-year-old retired ad saleswoman and Clinton delegate. “It’s over, lady!” yelled some Obama supporters a few yards away. Standing between the Sharks and the Jets, David Axelrod took pity on an older friend of Carmella’s who was suffering from aridity in the Unity humidity. The chief Obama strategist fetched a glass of water and brought it to the woman, who was wearing five Hillary buttons.

This amenity did not stop the disunity. Carmella and her friends continued to cry, “Nobama!” “We love you, Hillary!” and “We need Hillary!” as Barack Obama sat onstage on a stool behind his former rival, his finger studiously at his lips. Carmella was not impressed with all the kissing, laughing and whispering that Hill and Bam were diligently doing for the cameras, so that the moment could produce, as Obama press aide Robert Gibbs put it on “Larry King Live,” “a great picture.”

When it was Obama’s turn to speak, Carmella announced loudly, “I wish I had ear plugs.” Then, as Obama tried to ingratiate himself with the Hillary partisans in the crowd by saying that because of the New York senator, his daughters “can take for granted that women can do anything that the boys can do and do it better and do it in heels,” Carmella put her fingers in her ears.

As Obama tried to curry favor with Hillary, looking over at her sensible, sturdy shoes and marveling, “I still don’t know how she does it in heels,” Carmella tore up a tissue and stuffed it in her ears...............

Several things come to mind after reading this
1) No one will always be happy with who the nominee is.
2) Posting this could be seen as inflammatory
3) People will try to cause problems whenever and wherever they can
4) Dowd has been one of Clinton's harshest critics.

42. I've tried to shy away from laying the claim of racism on most of these people.
Some people just don't like Obama, and some people don't like Hillary for whatever reason. I'll try and give most the benefit of the doubt. I'm not saying that racism isn't at the core of some of this, but I don't want to label everyone who chooses not to support Obama as racist.

49. I understand that as I am black myself. But my larger point was that
I'm just trying not to label any & every white Democrat who refuses to support Obama as racist. Sometimes people just don't like people for no good reason, I'm guilty of that myself. I would be naive to think that race doesn't play some role, because the exit polls told us that there were whites who said they would never vote for a black man. Maybe I'm foolish, but I feel that throwing out blanket accusations of racism only hardens the resolve of those whites who may have had reservations in the first place.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need to be extra careful when applying that label.

I did a search for the word "love" for several days on HRC's official blog and only counted "I love Hillary" or "we love Hillary"s. Let me just say it is a meme on her blog.

I then went to Obama's blog & searched for "love". nada, zip.

other than he just 'seems' something or other, then I would believe they had a position that was defensible. However, since they don't, race has to be the core of their objection, whether they can admit it or not and whether people on this list like that answer or not.

And hate? That's silly. I'm a female CTO who works in an almost exclusively male domain. I don't have time for men's limitations.

Like many other DUers, I've registered elsewhere during silly season, so I know more than I post here. You can mock the trials and tribulations of women everywhere, but that won't earn you my respect - or their return.

As for DU, I came here years ago to support a cause with a progressive journalist who goes around telling females their most valuable asset is between their legs. He needed me for my technical expertise, but hates my guts to this day. His problem ... not mine.

Why do I stay? Because there's work to be done. Real people benefit when cooperation succeeds - and my campaigns here surpassed expectations.

You? You're an anonymous critic who's projecting animosity.

Someone once said that Ginger Rogers could do everything that Fred Astaire could do, and backwards and in heels.

It's kind of dated and unintentional bait for anyone predisposed to decide that it's a sexist term, and then have a fit over it.

Bad idea...like the seal...

In case you're jumping to conclusions, thinking that I'm a hater, making trouble....

I'm an Obama supporter all the way, I really detested Hillary (sorry if you liked her), and I never donated or made calls for a candidate in all my fifty-one years until this candidate.

So, unless you're being sarcastic or silly and I'm not getting it (in which case please excuse this reactive reply), then...

Wouldn't that just take all the fun out of sticking it to Hillary?

19. Carmella's a fanboy
whatever her age, whatever her gender.

We're a better country if she doesn't vote. And anyway, she'll probably get a nice parting gift from the RNC! Maybe a toaster-oven! Maybe a Wii!

20. Camilla must have
entirely too much disposable income to come all the way from Denver to Unity, NH to stick her fingers in her ears and act like a
fool.

I am so glad I am not related to her in any way. I'd be embarassed as hell.

She wished she had ear plugs? She could have saved herself the trip and kept the tv off. No need for earplugs. If these are kind kind of Hillary supporters who are voting for McCain they are pathetic indeed.

BUt more to the point, for the sake of unity, what the fuck was Hillary doing signing this twit's sign????? Kind of misses the whole point of it IMHO.

65. Carmilla is either 1/a Repuke plant or 2/a deranged "celebrity stalker"
I'm leaning toward #2 right now as it seems to fit the profile of someone is isn't working (for reasons of mental instability), has some disposible income (or is maxing out a credit card) and an insatiable, uncontrollable desire to follow a celebrity around the country and bring attention to herself by doing outlandish, ridiculous things (stuffing Kleenex in her ears, acting out, talking loudly and inappropriately).

Ihope she has family members who can quietly take charge, put her back on her meds and get her to a facility where she can receive intensive therapy and where her behavior can be regulated.

I don't think this has as much to do with Hillary Clinton as it does with this lady's total absorption with a super famous celebrity and her need to somehow attach herself to the celebrity.
She obviously needs help.

P.S. The reason Hillary autographed her sign is probably because she thought it best not to do anything that would drive this woman over the edge and do something that would mar the carefully planned unity demonstration.

26. “...gut feeling that something’s going to happen", she said.
“But I have a gut feeling,” she said with macabre faith, “that something’s going to happen so that she becomes the nominee.”

It's actually a bit troubling. Or a lot troubling.

83. What's sickening....
Is that her and the other PUMA types seem to be praying for "something" to happen. That if the worse happened, they would be cheering and dancing in the streets.

Sad. And sickening.

27. Wow
From the Dowd piece:

Afterward, Carmella got her idol to autograph her sign, telling the smiling Hillary, “You’re going to be the next president.”

She told The Times that she and her friends were all voting for John McCain and that Hillary was just doing what she had to do.

“But I have a gut feeling,” she said with macabre faith, “that something’s going to happen so that she becomes the nominee.”

Personally, I think Carmella needs a visit from the Secret Service.

90. Yes!
Carmella does need a visit from the Secret Service. I doubt it is she, however that has plans, if there are any, but that "gut feeling" came from somewhere other than her own sick mind.

I know she's disappointed, as are many others, but there's just no need to behave that way out in public.

David Axelrod cares more for a hostile stranger than Carmella does for a sympathetic friend. Pathetic.

If you visit the loopy sites like hillaryclintonforum.net, it's clear that they wish death upon our nominee. I cannot fathom why Hillary has not spoken out more strongly. She must do so. The threats by her dead-enders are dangerous.

84. But would they listen??
It's obvious the PUMA-types are deluding themselves trying to make themselves believe that Sen. Clinton "really doesn't mean what she's saying" on unity. I doubt they would listen to her now - or would convince themselves she meant the opposite

95. This part of the piece really..
explains why I have a hard time with these Hillary supporters: They did not, however, commiserate about Bill Clinton, who is in a self-pitying meltdown about not being Elvis anymore, trying to shake down Obama for more — more apologies for perceived snubs and more help paying off the $22 million Clinton debt.

It’s hard to fathom why Obama should be mau-maued into paying off the debt that Hillary and Bill accrued attacking and undermining him, while mismanaging the campaign and their nearly quarter-billion-dollar war chest so horribly that one Hillaryland insider told The New Republic that it bordered on fraud.

But the former president can’t stand being a loser, so he’s taking it out on the winner. When it comes to Bill, there’s a lot of vanity but very little humility in Unity.

These people really have a lot of nerve. I expect a lot of confusion at the convention. They want Obama to beg them for there votes, and they want to make it a co-presidency. I really see why the Dems can never get anything done because there are too many factions who want what they want when they want it. This woman stuff is a lot of garbage, do they really think Obama would not be for women issues, when the people who are the most close to him are women. That leaves me to only two conclusions entitlement or racism...
