Merrill Spent $1.3M Lobbying in 1Q

Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. spent $1.3 million in the first quarter lobbying on rules governing commodities trading and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report. The company lobbied on legislation that would require greater record keeping and reporting of trades in energy futures, according to an April 21 report filed with the House clerk's office. Many members of Congress have blamed "speculation" for the recent run-up in oil prices, which have increased by about 40 percent this year. Several senators have introduced bills that seek to reign in trading in oil and natural gas futures. New York City-based Merrill also lobbied on legislation involving tax and energy issues, bills that would implement a free trade agreement with Colombia, and on the implementation of a law that strengthens U.S. government review of foreign investment. You would think, with all the problems Merrill has, they wouldn't have the time or money to puch for FTA's with mass murderers. Everybody should know, that after Lehman goes down, Merrill's next. Sell now or forever hold your worthless paper!!!!!!!!
