Cannibal liberals
Why do left-leaning journalists eat their own?
By Neal Gabler
June 29, 2008
Oh, those crazy journalists. You know the ones I'm talking about. The one who described John Kerry as "French-looking" and made up some silly locution to show how out of touch he was -- "Who among us doesn't like NASCAR?" -- even though he never said it. Or the one who taunted Al Gore for claiming that he and his wife, Tipper, were the models for "Love Story" when Gore said no such thing. Or the one who described Bill Clinton as an "overweight band boy" and Hillary Rodham Clinton as "inauthentic." Or the one who tabbed Barack Obama "Obambi" and said that when visiting him at his office, she felt like Ingrid Bergman in "The Bells of St. Mary's," having to teach a bullied schoolboy how to box. Or the one who kept pressing Obama at a debate to fess up to his relationship with a 1960s terrorist.

Of course, what do you expect from right-wing nuts who will do and say anything to demonize Democrats? Except for one thing. All these examples -- and there are hundreds more -- were uttered not by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, David Brooks or any of the other Republican mouthpieces in our newspapers and on our airwaves. They were all said or written by liberal journalists, and even in a few cases by onetime Democratic operatives turned journalists, such as Chris Matthews and George Stephanopoulos. Indeed, the worst offender by far, the "Ingrid Bergman" in the example above, has been the New York Times' liberal columnist Maureen Dowd, who has never met a Democrat she hasn't disparaged.
...
And it is the liberal politicians who continue to pay the price for the liberal journalists' self-promotion cum self-preservation. Beating up on well-educated, well-spoken liberals is probably the surest means of proving one's Everyman credentials and protecting one's personal brand without also, by the way, losing one's Beltway bona fides. Going on about faith and religion is another.

Which is all the more reason why Democrats' expectations of a favorable November should be tempered by the cold reality that Obama will be taking heavy fire from both sides. After all, hasn't left-leaning Newsweek already told us that this election pits arugula against beer?

2. Yep.
Those who forget the realities that our Democratic nominee is running against the GOP and the media noise machine need reminding. They want to crucify Obama based on principle, but don't seem to understand that their piling on is just that, shit being put on top of shit, all which will result in benefits to the Republican Nominee.

They are smart people, these principled "hold his feet to the fire" critics, but somehow they are missing the bigger principle.

It is Sad and they are destructive to us.

3. These things were not written by liberal journalists.
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 12:37 PM by tabasco
They were written by propagandists working for the republican-owned, corporate media.

"In the run-up to the 2000 presidential election, Maureen Dowd took a consistently hard position against Democratic candidate Al Gore. She wrote that "Al Gore is so feminized and diversified and ecologically correct that he's practically lactating."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maureen_Dowd

Calling Maureen Dowd a liberal identifies the writer as a dumbass. Dowd is an unprincipled nothing.

Matthews ansd Stephanopoulus, if ever liberals, ceased to be so long ago and have become biased mouthpieces for the corporate masters.

6. Those are zealots with little difference between them and those that can
cherry-pick and completely distort religious text to further their hate.

It might be time to start pointing that out to some of them too.

7. If they keep it up, these leftwing journalists will...
eventually be as cannibalistic as leftwing bloggers and discussion board posters.

Just many of these "MSM" comments first appeared here, on Smirking chimp, or on some other alleged Progressive site? And how many are continually repeated here?

8. I agree with it--and don't give a shit who wrote it
I've seen too much of this crap. God, as soon as Obama got the nomination, I just sat there with my mouth open at some journalists who were liberal talking and who changed before my eyes into doing the "piss" on him bit as bad as the outright whores. In fact, I remember Jonathan Alter finally exploding on tv at a couple of them and basically telling these people what bullshit they were and what disgraces they were, etc. He jut took the knees out from under them and their buckling under repuke spew. There are few out there that fight the machine.

9. Can anybody who objects tell me where he is wrong.
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 01:04 PM by Mass
I have heard the same lies repeated by people on Keith Olberman without beeing contradicted. I have seen the same lies on Salon.com. I have seen them on Huffington Post.

It is time to understand it may be Obama's biggest risks. Lies repeated again and again by liberal pundits!

Now Maureen Dowd and Chris Matthews are not my idea of a liberal, but compared to others in the media, they are, and what they repeat is used throughout the blogosphere as truth more often than not.
