WTF? Obama is back up in Gallup's tracking poll. Oh, no, there goes a talking point
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 03:45 PM by Pirate Smile
Gallup Daily: Obama 46%, McCain 42%

Registered voters' preferences had been evenly divided in the prior three Gallup Poll Daily tracking releases. Obama has now pushed slightly back ahead after a stronger showing in Saturday's polling, mirroring the slight advantage he has held for much of June. The polling was the first Gallup had conducted following the "Unity" rally in which Obama and former Democratic nomination rival Hillary Clinton publicly campaigned together.

The presidential race has been close since Gallup began tracking general election preferences in March. The largest lead for either candidate has been just seven percentage points, for Obama after Clinton decided to suspend her campaign.

We know what this means:

By the way, tomorrow Obama is in MO:

Barack Obama in Independence, MO

Join Barack Obama at an event in Independence on Monday, June 30th.
EVENT WITH BARACK OBAMA

Truman Memorial Building
416 W. Maple Avenue
Independence, MO

Monday, June 30th
Doors Open: 9:00 a.m.

BTW: the tickets are all gone (of course)

Then he will be going to Colorado, North Dakota and Montana(on the 4th of July).

edit to add other news from Saturday - the adorable Obama girls played in the sprinklers in the front yard, Obama took Michelle who looked "slammin’ in a black cocktail dress with a severe slit down the back. Her hair was up" to an Italian restaurant and the press pooler went to Starbucks - it was the inaugural day of the protective pool which Obama will now have every day.

Karen Tumulty on the on the new pool report - '"Protective pool" is usually assigned the President, primarily (and I'm being blunt here) in case something unexpected happens to him. I'm sure, as gator surmises, that the Obama traveling press began agitating much more for one after that secret meeting at Feinstein's house. (I'm surmising, because I have been on vacation.) '

3. Well, they will ignore it, of course.
I saw this formula on Daily Kos which we can use with concern trolls.

Troll math (4+ / 0-)

Obama = Dukakis.

OK, but lets look at history. When did the Republicans beat the Clintons? Never.

So, our new equation is:
Clinton > Republicans

And since Obama beat Clinton, that gives us:
Obama > Clinton

Therefore,
Obama ≠ Dukakis because Obama > Clinton > Republicans.

Oops.

5. He's campaigning in North Dakota and Montana?
That's fantastic. Way to stay on offense!

If McCain were smart he'd campaign in Massachusetts. Polls have shown Obama not up by as much as he should be there, probably because people associate him with Deval Patrick. McCain could embarrass Obama by forcing him to campaign there...but he's too busy campaigning in Mexico and Colombia! How many electoral votes do they have?

6. That's IT!!?
There were, what 3 days where they were tied up in that poll and THAT generated all the TV claptrap we've been listening to for days?

Oh Sweet Mary Phoebe that drives me nuts.

The 24/sevenses were all over themselves all day down-talking Obama from every possible direction. There were famous repigs galore on the air to opine about the "potential dangers" that Obama will face in the months ahead.. with nary a Dem in sight.

This is going to be a long goddamn season, isn't it?

12. This is simply Gallup sucking up to teh Left
Basically, attempting to bank some Creds for later

Gallup has been caught many times (2000, 2004, etc) OVER POLLING Republicans.

My guess is that they're throwing you a fish NOW, when it doesn't matter so later you might believe them when they revers the chart or try to tell you how close it is.

Remember, in the end, their job is to make you THINK it's close to make it more plausible when the Repugs steal it in November.

Ignore Gallup even when it appears to be good news. It's a setup.
