Poll question: Is Obama/Clark the best possible ticket this year?
Lately I've been hearing a lot about the possibility of Wesley Clark for VP. What do you think?

4. Wes has been retired from the military for a while now
I've known him for years, and he is a deeply intellectual, thoughtful,
and extremely well-educated guy. He wasn't ready 4 years ago, I thought.
He has grown immensely since then, and I think he'd do us proud this time,
although there are plenty of palatable alternatives as well.

12. Why would you say he's a "military man"?
Have you ever heard the man talk about what it is like to be a Democrat? If you did, you wouldn't be assuming he's just a military man. And, being a military man does not mean that he is pro-force.

And, by the way, what the fuck is wrong with the military?

20. Baseless argument
The insinuation is that he would love to start a war or escalate military conflicts for the US. That couldn't be further from the truth. Clark's view on the military is that military force should be a LAST resort and that diplomacy is the best policy.

2. You forgot "other"
I would be very happy to see Wes Clark as the VP candidate, BUT I'd
not be crushed if it were someone else, as long as it was someone
COMPETENT. Luckily we have a long list of possibles here, where poor
McCain is stuck with bad, worse, and gimmeafuckinbreak.

However, Clark/Obama would have been the very best ticket.

8. it would be the best "safe" choice of a ticket
Perhaps Obama/Webb or Obama/Schweitzer would be better tickets. But they would be somewhat riskier.

22. I disagree with the connotation elicted by "safe"
Sam Nunn would be a safe choice. Clark has gone on record saying that military force should be a last resort. Nothing politically safe about that position.

24. Fuck Sam Nunn in his wrinkled old homophobic ass with a chainsaw.
Of course, given your responses in that other thread, I'm not too surprised your a fan of Nunn.

And military force should ALWAYS be a last resort. Anybody who doesn't believe that is batshit insane. And when a retired four star general & NATO commander tells you that, maybe you should consider that he knows what he's talking about.

Best choice to balance out Barack's perceived lack of military knowledge.

11. It would be one of his best possible picks.
It brings Arkansas and probably Florida (Clark is half Jewish).

And I just like Wes Clark. He opposed the war in Iraq just as Obama did and that makes them a nice fit.

13. Wes is also an outspoken opponent of attacking Iran
He is dead set against it, and can elucidate his reasons for it
with logic and clarity instead of slogans and pre-packaged soundbytes.

14. Totally agree with all views expressed here. Would only add
that Wes brings the look and bearing of a man with confidence, with experience and with grace. He is a comfort to those who may thing that Obama is charismatic but we need someone who is proven in the field of combat and has executive experience (he was, after all, the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during the Kosovo war which he was in charge of without losing one American serviceperson).

17. He kicked ass on Face the Nation this morning
Bob Schieffer was clearly miffed that Clark wouldn't back down and sign on to the "POW = amazing national security credentials" thing that's been floated by the MSM.

18. Yea, I'd say he's our best option. Is the MSM mentioning him much?
It used to seem like nobody ever really mentioned him as a good choice for Veep. I'm not sure why he isn't mentioned a lot more often.

21. Clark is getting lots of face time on TV
He's definitely mounting an effective unspoken campaign for the V.P. spot, that's for sure.

19. I think Wesley Clark would be great.
He and Obama would rip the R nominees to shreds in a debate. There are other reasons why he's a good choice, but that alone would be worth seeing.
