Plus it is free.

13. Not since my graphic design courses in college, I haven't.
My computer history is a bit convoluted. I worked on an analog computer in the Navy. I had a C64 then an Amiga 500 then Amiga 1200 before moving to PC's (about the time Windows 3.11 was still popular) and then to Linux.

I like the Mac on a aesthetic level, but the closed architecture has always bothered me.

For many years, they were ungodly expensive, which was a showstopper for me.

20. Now, Now...
Most, if not all, new Macs use Intel x86 chips.

Therefore...

Macs have become PCs.

33. Wrong! Macs have become more compatible . . .
Mac has always strove to be compatible. Mac hasn't conceded anything by adopting the Intel chips. We're still using the same operating system. As for Windoze their market share made them very lazy about compatibility issues. As Mac's share grows, Windoze will be doing catch up while Mac surges forward. You'll see.

then what is McCain? DOS? The old punch cards computer from the 60s?
Or is he the slide rule?

PS: Does anybody here actually have any experience with a punch card computer? I don't wanna say you're old, though.

I have experience with punch card computers believe it or not - my dad used to own a data processing company, and used to play with it as a kid. My first computer was a C64.

27. Yep, when I was a Purchasing Agent in the US Air Force
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 10:11 AM by symbolman
took up a whole room.. We'd get our purchase orders with a big clump of rubber-banded punch cards on top.. I kept thinking, "Ya know.. I should probably learn More about these machines.. Might come in handy some day.."

Now I'm posting to this thread with my IPhone with which I'm deeply in love :)

Nothing like hooking my IPhone on my belt so my three year old can watch TeleTubbies while I'm at the bank, dentist or supermarket line.. When he goes to bed he operates the calculator, IPod, and selects YouTube material to watch together - I mean HE Uses the phone, types gobblty-gook then sends a nite-nite email to mommy.. At Three.

You'd think McSame could Learn Something about them..

Then again, my tot is more curious, wants to be a Blue Man when he grows up, drums like them all day with chopsticks :)

Tickles the shit out of me :)

32. Be a great way for Obama to show how Ignorant that asshole is..
throw some Tech Talk in his face at a debate, either piss him OFF, or make him look doddering and ineffectual :)

Maybe McSame doesnt want to be reminded of playing with mice as a POW, they were probably his only friends, esp after he made deals with the enemy, and recieved preferential treatment as an Admirals son..

Still must have sucked, don't think I would have lived through that..

35. There are many issues of Tech and Science that this nation needs
to discuss and haven't' since the presidential primaries started. I would
love to see a debate along these lines.

Global Warming, Green Tech, net neutrality, alternative energy etc.

37. Ha!
you know better my friend! Its all about lapel pins, Obama's "flip-flops" while everything McSame says is carved in stone according to the media.. If we were interested in Science we'd go steal some more smart people like when we copped those German scientists during WWII to show us how to build The Bomb :)

I'm furious at how The New Dumb (coined by Hunter S. Thompson) have taken over, the only ones with True confidence while the rest of us shrug, puzzled at the Doom forthcoming..

Its all about Survival for too many at this point, and that doesnt even seem to be an issue to the Republicans..

Push Science? As another pal of mine once said, "You might as well tell your refridgerator to Jump!"

:)

Always appreciate your posts!
