Zogby: Obama leads 44% to 38% Nationwide as Barr Takes 6% EC: O-273!
UTICA, New York – As the race for President passes the Independence Day holiday and heads toward the dog days of summer, Sen. Barack Obama holds a 44% to 38% lead over Sen. John McCain in the horserace contest, but also leads by a substantial margin in a state-by-state Electoral College tally, a new Zogby Interactive poll shows.

The extensive national poll of of 46,274 likely voters also shows Libertarian candidate and former Congressman Bob Barr wins 6% support, eating into McCain’s needed conservative base of support.

Or how else can we phrase that to make it sound like he has a chance?

7. I don't like this! Still far too close. I want Obama to be able to say that he won on his own...
not because of Bob Barr. I would like for him to be able to say that he has a mandate and some political capital to go with that. I respect Zogby but I'm not comfortable with where we stand at the moment. I still maintain that it's not close.

9. It's not that close, really.
Patience. Obama is making inroads in red states and securing swing states.

Check back in one month and then two months from now. I fully expect Obama to be polling over 50% by then.

10. Mcdubya has a ceiling of 45%.
And, it could be lowering on him daily.

Obama's ceiling hasn't been hit. It could be 55% or more. Stay tuned....

Democratic primary infighting. This guy really is the one who has the problems. He can't get above that number. And in fact, he seems to be stuck in the low 40's ever since Obama wrapped up the nomination. While the M$M continues to muse about Obama's "problems," they don't speak at all of the very real problems facing McSame.

he wouldn't be able to breach 40%.

Maybe the next time I'm engaged in conversation with a diehard lib-hater, I'll tell him I'm backing Bob Barr!

Let him split the with McCain whatever share of the electorate loves Bush.

21. Zogby is another outfit that samples D's and R's evenly
Like Gallup. I don't agree with their methodology, but it's noteworthy that Obama has a six-point lead nationally when both parties are sampled evenly. If they were sampled according to identification, Obama might have a 10-point lead.

K/R for good info ... 273 EVs not counting the toss-up states is excellent! :hi:
