Poll question: Will the Republicans have a big fight at their convention?

"It is no secret that many conservatives do not like John McCain for his positions on immigration, campaign finance and global warming and they are determined to stop him from rewriting the party's platform to enshrine his ideas in it. If they follow through on this threat, it could disrupt the Republican convention and lead to a nasty platform fight. Democrats don't have a similar problem. The 2004 Democratic platform was 39 pages of mush but there is little in it that is controversial among Democrats. The platform committee will just remove the endless references to Kerry's war service and replace them with calls for change. Most of the planks will remain intact. Nobody ever reads the party platforms anyway, but activists are willing to draw blood to get them their way. It is probably the only aspect of American politics where ideas dominate."

1. I don't think they'll be wearing those band-aids with purple hearts
on them, somehow. But I do think there's likely to be some squabbling on a number of fronts, which should be fun to watch.

4. They'll probably have some kind of...

...racist symbolism out to remind them of Obama.

11. You just know one delegate will show up in blackface.
But will the cameras find him?

5. They'll be too busy looking
for a decent place to eat. If the Repubs can find a restaurant at all in St. Paul the prices will scare them off or else they'll be spending all their time going back and forth to Minneapolis. If they're looking for nightlife, St. Paul shut that down years ago.

I just got back from Denver. I found some great dinners there in the $10 range and a downtown with an actual nightlife. The T-shirt shops are well-prepared for the convention, too. The Democrats are going to have a great time!

7. Prices scare them off??

Don't you think Republicans who go to the convention have money to burn?

9. What an ugly site!!!

:scared:

I bet there will be a lot of protesters out for the convention. I was in NY during the 2004 convention, and it was pretty wild. Hope the St.Paul police know how to handle large groups of people.
