Obama will ANNOUNCE His VP Just before or on the Day of the Convention
I'm beginning to agree with others here that a short-shortlist of names has already been generated. And anybody else mentioned as possibilities (like Webb) have been crossed out or were never serious contenders to begin with. The vetting that's beginning (as mentioned by Marc from The Atlantic) is of the SERIOUS contenders of up to 5 I think. Obama will announce either just before the Convention or the day he accepts the nomination. I don't see him waiting until after the Convention as he'll want his VP with him as the GE officially begins.

1. He can't wait until after the convention -- the vp has to be nominated at the convention
Not sure why it would even be suggested taht he would wait until after the convention. The issue is whether he will break with tradition and announce his VP selection weeks, rather than days, before the convention.

4. Yes, the less meat you give the media the better and he must get them on message before they go.

6. 76,000
screaming people at Invesco field, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton speaking, the Keynote address by someone new and amazing.

I expect 2-1 weeks before the convention so that we dominate the news cycle going into the convention.

8. Mile High Stadium in the Mile High City..
and if you donate $5.00 or more before July 31st you have a chance to be one of the 10 people flown to Denver and getting a front row seat at the Convention and meeting Obama.

You can bet I'll be donating.

z --

I wanted you to be the first to hear the news.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.

On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.

Instead, Barack will leave the convention hall and join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event where he will deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.

If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.

Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:

https://donate.barackobama.com/demconvention

We'll follow up with more details on this and other convention activities as we get closer, but please take a moment and pass this note to someone you know who might like to be there.

It will be an event you'll never forget.

Thank you,

David

9. I doubt they will wait until the convention to announce...
They already have media attention during the convention week. It makes more sense to announce 2-3 weeks before the convention and dominate the media coverage.
