Almost time to get my feet on the street! |
|
For the first time, I'm going to be volunteering on behalf of the New Mexico Democratic Party!
I signed up to volunteer online and got a call this afternoon from a couple of guys with the party wanting to know if I wanted to participate in a "neighborhood leader program" and do phonebanking. I was so glad to finally hear back so that I could at least do a little something!
I should be getting my packet in the mail in the next couple of weeks to start the activities for the neighborhood program. I'm already nervous, but more excited! It'll be a series of "friendly" canvassing stops following by GOTV activities closer to the election. I'll be working for the Tom Udall for Senate, Harry Teague for Congress, and (of course) the Obama campaigns. I guess I'd better straighten up and represent like I should. :)
Wish me luck! Once I get started I'll provide updates. I think New Mexico is going BLUE all the way this year!

After hearing an office-mate on the phone today, talking to her grown son, he apparently asked her something about which candidate she supports and the ensuing conversation revealed that he was telling her that Obama is "opportunistic", I'm a little depressed. This is your typical voter, she knows next to nothing about the issues, and there they were having this conversation, using the word "opportunistic" - straight out of the McCain campgain - as though it were their own thought.
Your post made me feel a little better, though, thanks.

I can't bear to think what another (at least) four years of neocons "running" this place will do to this country and much of the rest of the world.
I may not be able to do much, but I have to do SOMEthing. I really think this is our last chance.

:toast: One thing I love about the Obama campaign is how many new volunteers it has inspired to get involved. I've been involved with the campaign since last year, and this is the first time many of my fellow volunteers have been involved with a campaign. My ex-girlfriend registered to vote for the very first time earlier this year because of Senator Obama. Keep doing what you're doing, blonndee!

It's really very exciting, isn't it? I have to remind myself not to spend TOO much time here lately because of all the negativity and people who aren't willing to do anything besides post here either in support of or to criticise (or both) Obama. It's so good, though, to know that you and others are here as well.
