NRA has Support of 56% of Americans, but its Endorsement Means Little for McCain So Far

The NRA supports John McCain and opposes Barack Obama. Does this make you more likely to vote for McCain, more likely to vote for Obama, or have no impact on your vote?

More Likely to Vote for McCain 17%

More Likely to Vote for Obama 21%

No Impact 61%

Not sure 1%

1. You know, the recent supreme court ruling is GREAT NEWS for Obama.
While he is on record as being anti-gun the recent supreme court ruling makes it easier for those that believe in gun rights to vote for him.

2. Most Americans don't really know what the NRA is about. They
think hunting, gun safety, gun rights, etc. But they're not familiar with some of the more controversial stands the NRA has taken.

3. If some Americans had known about the NRA, they wouldn't have baited them....
I remember reading a pro- gun-control article by Laurence Tribe back in the late 60s. He made his argument for the "militia clause" as opposed to an individual right to keep and bear arms, but held out small hope for change because of the power of the NRA... IN THE 'SIXTIES.

Since then, of course, Tribe has come around to the individual right viewpoint, but he correctly noted the power of the NRA which should have been instructive to the gun-controllers who were only just then gathering forces. This is a large, well-funded, highly sophisticated organization which has now loaded up with all manner of right-wing ideologues attuned to the GOP, far more than 40-50 years ago.

5. They promise $40m against Obama. Staddling the position and not taking funding will help us.
