Floating VP names
The convention is still 7 weeks away so all the names being run up the flagpole could very well be for testing and reaction purposes.

Polling
Focus Groups
and monitoring the blogosphere

Also seeing what reaction they get from the body of organizations and large donors-they surely run all these past the head honchos but floating a name can draw out the emails from the rank and file of core groups.

Just something to keep in mind.
