The Speech Obama should give about Iraq
In September 2006 President Bush told the President of Iraq, that "when the Iraqi's ask us to leave, we'll leave."

Well, now, in July 2008, Prime Minister Maliki of Iraq, has said that it is time for the U.S. to set a reasonable time table for withdrawal of U.S. Troops.

In my opinion the time to do that has long since passed.

But, it is clear that the current U.S. President has no intention of heeding the call of the Iraqi Prime Minister.

That is wrong. The elected leader of the Iraqi people has asked us to leave. So, we should leave.

I hear the Iraqi people. And I hear the American people.

I have said it before, and I will say it again . . . if I am elected President, the first thing I will do, is to call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and I will tell them to immediately begin planning the safe withdrawal of all American combat troops from Iraq within 16 months.

I will do that, because that is what the soveriegn nation of Iraq has asked us to do. And, because that is what the American people are electing me to do.

Senator McCain, stubbornly refuses to announce a time-line for withdrawal. The ONLY logical conclusion that can be drawn from his unwillingness to heed the request of the Iraqi people is - clearly - that like President Bush, Senator McCain has NO intention of EVER withdrawing American troops from Iraq.
